Liam McGrath is a graduate of Colaiste Dhulaigh in Dublin and the National Film School in Dun Laoghaire where he started his directing career, making music videos. His graduation film in 1993 was 'Boys for Rent', an award winning documentary dealing with the experiences of male prostitutes in Dublin.
In 1995 McGrath established Scratch Films Ltd. and directed a follow on film, 'Male Rape' - men overcoming rape and sexual abuse' for RTE's first True Lives series and The Irish Film Board.
Since then McGrath has directed many documentaries and T.V. series' for RTE, CH4, BBC, TV3 and ARTE.

videos, T.V. series´ and documentary films. His most successful project to date would have to be 'Southpaw', a feature-length documentary that follows the rise of Francis Barrett, a Galway based Traveller and his dream of winning an Olympic medal for Ireland in boxing.
As a cameraman McGrath has operated on 'U2 HOME'-Live at Slane Castle, 4 U2-Bonus DVD singles from 'How to Dismantle an Automic Bomb', 'Beautiful Day' and 'Elevation' Live from the roof of the Clarence Hotel, 'Neil Young Live at Vicar Street' and 'Suede-Live and Direct' for MTV.
McGrath was the additional cameraman and main assistant on John T. Davis' self-shot feature documentaries 'The Uncle Jack' and 'Traveller'.
McGrath's most successful documentary to date would have to be 'Southpaw' (CH4/RTE/IFB), a feature lenght documentary that follows the rise of Francis Barrett, a Galway/London based Traveller and his dream of winning an Olympic medal for Ireland in boxing. After a screening at the Sundance Film festival 'Southpaw' was picked up for a theatrical release in Ireland, Britain and the USA before being sold on to many other countries world-wide.
McGrath's most successful T.V. series to date has been 'Naked Camera 1,2 and 3'.
His most recent accolades as a Producer or Director include; 2014- ‘Best Feature Documentary’- The SKY Road Film Festival, ‘The Irish Times Music Television Golden Remote Control Award’ & in 2012 The Irish Film and Television Award for ‘Best Documentary’.
