Dublin International Comedy Film Festival announce 2023 programme
26 Oct 2023 : News Desk
Dublin International Comedy Film Festival
The Dublin International Comedy Film Festival (DICFF) has announced its 2023 programme. The festival will take place from November 29th to December 2nd.

Going into its 3rd year and its 4th festival, the Dublin International Comedy Film Festival promises some much-needed winter levity with a programme of films, industry Q&As, a live script comedy competition, networking events, live stand-up acts, and awards.

DICFF will take place between the Lighthouse Cinema and the Generator Hostel in Smithfield, Dublin 7. The programme will bring together comedy films, shorts, and sketches from Ireland and around the globe.

The festival is the brainchild of filmmaker and actor Maureen ‘Mo’ O’Connell, an award-winning actor, writer, director, and producer.

"Comedy is art,” said Mo O’Connell, speaking of the festival. “Like all art, it is healing. I love being in a room full of people and we all find the same thing funny and laughing together, having that release together. Comedy, done right, is soulful."

O’Connell set up the Dublin International Comedy Film Festival in 2020 in response to the pandemic. The online comedy festival featured comedy acts including Killian Sundermann and Michael Fry as well as over 60 comedy films to choose from.

The Big Irish Feature this year is Baz Black’s Dublin Crust. Set in contemporary Dublin, Dublin Crust tells the story of an old punk rock band reunion having one last gig together. Two feature films from the UK are featured in the festival this year, Harvey Greenfield is Running Late and The Bystanders.

Q&A guests include director, writer and producer Jason Butler (Republic of Telly, Bridget & Eamonn), and Let the Wrong One In director Conor McMahon.

There are live comedy acts each evening, and the live script reading competition takes place Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd December. Each shortlisted script must prepare a rehearsed reading of their script with actors at the Generator, in front of a live audience who then get to vote and have a say, along with the judges, on the winning script.

Deadpan Pictures is joining DICFF this year in judging and awarding the Best Irish Short Film of 2023.

The opening night launch is at 9pm on November 29th in the Generator Hostel, after screenings at the Lighthouse Cinema. The opening night launch is free to attend.

The festival pass which includes entry to all films and events is €30. For tickets or more information about the festival click here.
