Steve Lynch of Stellarsound Scores 'Saving the Titanic'
08 Sep 2011 :
Saving The Titanic stars David Wilmot & Owen McDonnell
Irish composer Steve Lynch of Stellarsound is to score Tile Films’ 1x90/2x52 minute feature docu-drama ‘Saving the Titanic’.

Lynch has already worked with ‘Saving the Titanic’ helmer Maurice Sweeney on the historic award winning drama-doc ‘Cromwell in Ireland’. Steve told IFTN that the music for the latest production will be big: ”The music for ‘Saving the Titanic’ will be orchestral. Because of the nature of the subject, it has to be big. There are very impressive visuals in the production and the music should mirror the visuals.”

Produced by Tile Films’ Stephen Rooke, ‘Saving the Titanic’ stars David Wilmot (The Guard, The Tudors), Owen McDonnell (Mount Pleasant, Single-Handed), Ciaran McMenamin (One Hundred Mornings), Jonathan Byrne (Primeval), Andrew Simpson (Notes on a Scandal), Hugh O’Connor (Your Bad Self, Killing Bono) and Stephen Hogan (Earthbound, The Tudors). ‘Saving the Titanic’ is currently filming in Ardmore Studios and will be broadcast on RTÉ in April 2012.

Lynch has also scored Brendan Culleton’s historical documentary ‘Congo; An Irish Affair’ which will released in selected cinemas nationwide from September 14th. Steve told IFTN that on this documentary, the interviewees “have so much to tell and it is a complex tale, so the music is really just to provide an underscore for this documentary.”

Other upcoming productions which feature compositions from Lynch include the much anticipated Irish version of ‘The Secret Millionare’. Produced by Animo Television for RTÉ’s autumn schedule, the music has a “magical element”, to fit in with the miracle feel of the format.

Recent projects with a Stellarsound musical finish include Garry Keane’s RTÉ Documentary ‘The Writing in the Sky’, RTÉ two part documentary ‘The Blood of the Travellers’, TV3’s ‘The Tenements’, a special hosted by Ray D’Arcy on ‘Depression: Ireland’s Final Taboo’ and Brian O’Malley’s award winning short ‘Crossing Salween’.
