Positive Findings in ILBF Final Evaluation Report
06 Sep 2010 | A final evaluation report on the original £12 million allocation to the Irish Language Broadcast Fund (ILBF) has been published. The report’s findings include significant positive impacts of the ILBF, in terms of economic and cultural outcomes, on both the independent production sector and stakeholders in Northern Ireland, since its creation in 2005. 
Interview: Stokes Passing SPI Torch to Galavan
26 Aug 2010 | Sean Stokes’ handed over the role of CEO of the Screen Producers Ireland (SPI) to Barbara Galavan on Tuesday, August 24th. Having come to the end of his term as CEO Stokes has taken up his new position as MD of Sports and Media Rights International Ltd. IFTN spoke to both Sean and Barbara to talk about the Stokes’ time with the producers representative group and the challenges now facing Barbara. 
Dublin ‘Must be the Place’ as Sorrentino Shoot Starts
16 Aug 2010 | Cameras start rolling today, Monday August 16th on the set of ‘This Must Be the Place’. The feature marks Italian director Paolo Sorrentino's English feature debut and will shoot on location in Dublin for the next three weeks. The film stars Oscar-winners Sean Penn (Milk, Mystic River), Frances McDormand (Fargo), and musician David Byrne, alongside Irish talent Simon Delaney (Zonad, Happy Ever Afters), Olwen Fouere (Space Truckers) and newcomer Eve Hewson. 
Interview: Brown Bag Films Move into Features
12 Aug 2010 | 16 years ago Cathal Gaffney and Darragh O’Connell founded Brown Bag Films. In a pre-digital era the pair set up the studios as a means of making their own films. The group was founded at a time when Ireland has the biggest animation industry in Europe with the ironic fact that none of the studios here were Irish-owned. The company has since moved from its hand-drawn and painted beginnings to boast a staff of 57 in its Dublin studios which are equipped with a state of the art High Definition picture and Audio post production facilities. Furthermore the group has, as of July this year, a new Hollywood-based office. IFTN caught up with co-founder and managing director Cathal Gaffney to talk about the future of the company and Irish animation as a whole. 
Tyrell appointed as Clear-Com Region Distributor
12 Aug 2010 | Clear-Com, a leader in mission-critical voice communication systems, has continued to expand its reach into Ireland with the appointment of solutions provider, Tyrell CCT as its distributor for the region. The latter will look to open up a broader customer base in Ireland’s broadcast, theatrical and corporate markets to the streamlined, reliable communications workflows made possible by Clear-Com intercoms. 
Delaney & Ingleby Visit 'Every Second Sunday'
12 Aug 2010 | Hubbard and Banks Media goes into production with short film ‘Every Second Sunday’ this weekend. Starring Simon Delaney (Zonad) and Lee Ingleby (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban) it will shoot in Dublin and Bray. Simon Hubbard (Jack) is the writer/director of the project with Fergal O'Hanlon (Yu Ming is Ainm Dom) on board as director of photography. 
Neil Jordan Adapting 'Skippy Dies', Irish Shoot Planned
09 Aug 2010 | Neil Jordan (Ondine, Breakfast on Pluto) has commenced adapting Paul Murray’s novel, ‘Skippy Dies’ for a feature film he will direct that will shoot in Ireland. The Dublin-based caper, recently featured as one of 13 books on the longlist for the Man Booker Prize, centres around the life of Daniel ‘Skippy’ Juster and his room-mate Ruprecht Van Doren, and their life in a Catholic boarding school. 
Work Begins on National Film School Building
29 Jul 2010 | Work is to begin in two weeks on the site of IADT's new National Film School. The project, which has been awarded €5 million by Minister for Education and Skills, Mary Coughlan TD, will see the building of Ireland's first HD television studio. The building is to open for Sep/Oct 2011. 
£22m Return in NIS Financial Report
28 Jul 2010 | Northern Ireland Screen‘s annual report for the year 2009 - 2010 has been published and shows a return of £22 million to the local economy through the group’s main production investment fund. One of the biggest success stories for the group was ‘Your Highness’ which brought in £11.78 million of this. 
UK Film Council to be Abolished?
27 Jul 2010 | John Woodward, CEO of the UK Film Council has today announced that the UK Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has informed him of its intention to abolish the UK Film Council. The decision comes in the wake of Britain’s Culture Secretary, Jeremy Hunt proposing the closure of the group. 
Rebecca O’Brien Talks Co-Production
26 Jul 2010 | As part of this year’s Galway Film Fleadh Media Antenna’s Irish contingent, fronted by Eibhlín Ní Mhunghaile, hosted a co-producers’ dinner. Rebecca O’Brien (who has produced twelve of Ken Loach’s films since ‘Hidden Agenda’ in 1990) was invited to make a key note speech after dinner; her key points are reproduced below: 
Expert Air Awarded FACT Security Accreditation
26 Jul 2010 | Expert Air has announced that it has been awarded the FACT (Federation Against Copyright Theft) Certificate of Accreditation. The transport solutions company is now the only Irish-owned company to have received this accreditation which will enhance the level of service the company can provide to the film and media industry, helping them address customers’ security concerns against anti-piracy. 
Minister Ryan Switches on Exemplar Network
20 Jul 2010 | Communications Minister Eamon Ryan has switched on the Government’s Exemplar Network. This is globally unique fibre-optic communications network using patented Irish technology will now allow for the high-speed and high-quality transfer of electronic data. 
Start Date Confirmed for 'This Must be The Place'
08 Jul 2010 | Cameras will roll on the set of Italian/French/Irish co-production ‘This Must Be the Place’ on Monday, August 16th. The film is to be co-funded by Intesa Sanpaolo, an Italian bank group, in an unprecedented move. 
Curtis Appointed Director of Digital Switchover
05 Jul 2010 | RTÉ has appointed Mary Curtis to the new senior executive position of Director of Digital Switchover, with responsibility for an effective transition by audiences in the coming two years to digital television using the new Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) system. 
Audiences to Explore 'Terry Wogan's Ireland'
30 Jun 2010 | Native Limerick presenter and radio broadcaster, Terry Wogan is currently in Ireland filming ‘Terry Wogan’s Ireland’, a two part documentary series being produced by Presentable Productions for the BBC. The programmes will look at the veteran TV personality’s early years and what he thinks it mean to be Irish in the 21st century. 
Midler, Cattrall and Lott to Shoot in Ireland
25 May 2010 | Bette Midler, Kim Cattrall and Pixie Lott will all shortly arrive on Irish soil to shoot Bootstrap Films’ latest feature ‘Sweet Baby Jesus’. The film, set in Bethlehem, Maryland sees Lott play a pregnant young hippie in the seventies who visits her mother for Christmas along with her boyfriend Joe. 
'The Last Furlong' Starts Filming in Ireland
13 May 2010 | Cameras started to roll of the set of feature film, ‘The Last Furlong’ on Monday, May 10th. The film, which stars Rachel Hurd-Wood (Peter Pan, Dorian Gray) and Harry Treadaway (Fishtank), will shoot on location in Wicklow and Meath for the next eight weeks. 
Irish Talent Receive BAFTA Television Nods
10 May 2010 | The official list of nominations for the Philips British Academy Television Awards have been announced and feature many nods to Irish talent including; Brendan Gleeson for his role in Churchill drama ‘Into the Storm’; ‘Five Minutes of Heaven’ in the category of Single Drama; ‘Occupation’ in Drama Serial and ‘The Graham Norton’ show for Entertainment Programme.
