World, International, European and Irish Premieres, as well as exclusive theatrical screenings, make up the 11th Richard Harris International Film Festival in association with Amcomri Entertainment. The festival has announced its programme of feature and short films taking place this week from the 25th to the 30th of October.
Opening the festival, on the 25th of October in association with Sky Cinema is the Morgan Freeman-led thriller 57 Seconds, screening at the Omniplex, Dooradoyle. The following day, the festival welcomes the International Premiere of David Duchovny’s Bucky F*cking Dent, adapted by Duchovny from his own novel. The film is an exploration of the relationship between an estranged father and son, set against the backdrop of the 1978 Pennant race between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees. The opening day also includes an early evening Documentary feature triple-bill.
On Friday the 27th, The Piper starring Elizabeht Hurley will be preceded by the European Premiere of the psychological thriller Bibi. Later that evening, there will be a double-bill of Irish films Advent and Suit-Hung, Tied Tongue. This marks the European premiere of Advent.
The festival hosts the Irish premiere of La Palisiada from Ukraine on Saturday 28th, as part of the festival’s Supporting Ukraine initiative. On the 28th, as part of the festival’s growing documentary section is The Eastern Front, a documentary about the war on Ukraine featuring renowned war correspondent Paul Conroy and former BBC journalist John Sweeney. Conroy will be joining the festival for a Q&A live from the frontline near Kherson via Zoom, together with the film’s director Caolan Robertson and John Sweeney.
For the younger cinemagoers, the festival is hosting a very special and exclusive theatrical screening of Kenneth Branagh’s Artemis Fowl. This is the only opportunity to view Artemis Fowl on the big screen by permission of Disney Ireland. This is an invite only event.
Prior to the festival’s Red-Carpet Awards show in Thomond Park featuring special guests, the festival’s Sports Documentary Day in association with Mandalay Sports Media will interest sport documentary enthusiasts, with exclusive screenings of Kids in a Cage and Return To Your Corner. There will also be a special screening of Martin Donnelly: Life on the Edge, with former Irish F1 Driver Martin Donnelly in attendance. This unique event takes place in the International Rugby Experience.
From Australia, comes revenge thriller The Cost on the 29th, and the screenings wrap on the 30th with the World Premiere of Shamrock Spitfire, the biopic of Irish Battle of Britain fighter pilot Brendan ‘Paddy’ Finucane.
“The programme we have curated for 2023 contains something for everyone,” said Festival Director Zeb Moore. “We are very excited to have so many world and international premieres to give local audiences the first look at a diverse range of features and shorts from all over the world. We believe we have one of the most exciting programmes of any of our peer festivals this autumn.”
The festival will also screen 90 shorts from all over the world in-person and online over the course of the week. All shorts are screened at the Commercial.
