Donegal Viewers Face Earlier Digital Switch
02 Oct 2012 : By Eva Hall
Some homes in Donegal will lose the analogue signal next week
Irish television viewers receiving their signal from the RTÉ Network Limited transmitter in Donegal must make the big switch on October 10, two weeks before the nationwide digital switchover on October 24.

TG4 will be switched off in Cross, Glengad, Mossy Glen and Malin in Donegal. The RTÉNL transmitter is based in Moville in North Donegal.

RTÉNL was established in 2002 and now operates 10 main sites and over 100 smaller relays and transposers for terrestrial television and radio around the country.

All of the affected areas are already served by the new Saorview signal and viewers can receive TG4 on Saorview and satellite at the moment.

It was revealed last week that some 200,000 television viewers have not yet made the big switch in Ireland, with one in four believing the switch would not go ahead as planned on October 24.

TG4 deputy CEO, Pádhraic Ó Ciardha, said: “The digital switchover will result in better quality pictures and sound for all viewers and we are encouraging all remaining analogue viewers to make the change to digital well before the final date.”

The national digital switchover for Ireland and Northern Ireland takes place on October 24.
