They Can't Know About Me
New Irish short They Can’t Know About Me is set to make its world premiere at the Roze Filmdagen Festival in Amsterdam on March 16th, as part of the festival’s Perfect Strangers strand.

They Can't Know About Me, written and directed by Michael Carolan (One Thousand Yards) and produced by Emer Durcan (Picture Day) of Western Front Studios, will have its World Premiere in Amsterdam next month at the Roze Filmdagen Festival.

The short follows Frank, a young bisexual father and husband living a dual life. Despite having a loving relationship with his wife, Linda, and their daughter Jen, Frank secretly engages in discreet encounters with young men during weekend shopping trips to Dublin city. The film unfolds as Frank's carefully crafted facade begins to crumble, forcing him to confront the destructive consequences of his actions.

Richard McWilliams plays the lead role of Frank (Vikings, Fair City), Fiona O’Carroll (Mrs. Brown’s Boys) is Linda, and Callie Weir is Jen.

"I wanted it to be quite raw and uncompromising, for it to have a voyeuristic nature that didn’t shy away from the taboo subject matter,” said writer-director Carolan. “It is quite harsh in places but sad too as we see the cracks forming in a happy family unit. I wanted it to grab audiences from the start and not let up the paranoia and tension until it cuts to black."

Producer Durcan commented: "The support from the local community in Dublin was amazing. This film showcases Dublin City Centre in a realistic yet cinematic way, and I can't wait for the public's reactions."

Also screening as part of the festival’s Perfect Strangers strand on March 16th is Irish short Malcolm, starring Prasanna Puwanarajah (The Crown) and written and directed by Caleb J. Roberts (Homebird). Malcolm had its world premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh last year.
