The trailer for ‘The Young Offenders Christmas Special’ has been revealed with RTÉ confirming that Peter Foott’s hit show is set for a Christmas Day premiere on RTÉ One.
The announcement was made following the UK release of the Irish comedy on the BBC Three online platform on Friday.
Filming wrapped on the Cork-based project in October and will feature a guest appearance from Robert Sheehan (‘Love/Hate’, ‘Mortal Engines’). Produced by Vico Films, the special is written, directed and executive produced by creator Peter Foott (‘Republic of Telly’) and produced by Martina Niland (‘Once’, ‘Sing Street’).
The Christmas Special will follow on from the hugely successful TV series, which features Alex Murphy and Chris Walley as loveable rogues Conor and Jock, and Hilary Rose as Conor’s mam Mairead. The show averaged an audience of 401,000 during its TX run on RTÉ, and proved hugely popular with younger viewers: 36% of 15-34 year olds tuned in every Thursday night on RTÉ2.
‘The Young Offenders’ originally came to prominence back in 2016 when it earned €1.3 million at the Irish box office along with eight IFTA nominations including an award for ‘Best Script – Film’ at the 2017 IFTA Film & Drama Awards. The debut TV series also earned critical acclaim winning two IFTA Television Awards and earning a further four nominations at the ceremony back in May.
‘The Young Offenders’ is commissioned for BBC Three and BBC Comedy in association with RTÉ.
The Young Offenders Christmas Special will feature on RTÉ One at 10:35pm on Christmas Day.
