Shooting Wraps on Paddy Breathnach's 'Rosie'
12 Apr 2018 :
Paddy Breathnach's new film ‘‘Rosie’’ wraps principal photography this week in Dublin. The films is written by Roddy Doyle and stars Sarah Greene and Moe Dunford.

‘Rosie’ tells the story of a mother trying to protect her family after their landlord sells their rented home and they become homeless. Finding a room, even for a night, is a tough job and finding somewhere permanent to live is even harder. Within the confines of their car, ‘Rosie’ and John Paul strive to maintain a loving home while shielding their young family from the reality of the situation around them. ‘Rosie’ examines how even in times of crises; the love and strength of a family can endure.

‘Rosie’ is Roddy Doyle’s first original screenplay in 18 years and is a direct response to the current housing crisis in Ireland: ‘One morning, in late 2016, I was listening to the radio news and heard a young woman describing how she’d spent the previous day in her car, with her children, trying to find a place to stay that night.  I thought to myself as I listened: ‘That’s the story.’  I immediately went upstairs to my office and started writing the script.’

Director Paddy Breathnach commented: ‘Roddy’s script hooked me immediately. I found it compelling and pure. For me it's about the resilience and love of a family who find themselves under mounting pressure to find a place to stay for a night. There’s a tension, sadness and humour in it that I knew could make a film about homelessness in an immediate and deeply human way.

‘Rosie’ is produced by Emma Norton, Rory Gilmartin and Juliette Bonass. Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe are Executive Producers for Element Pictures and Dearbhla Regan is the Irish Film Board Executive Producer.

‘Rosie’ was shot in and around Dublin over the last four weeks and is backed by the Irish Film Board, Element Pictures Distribution and BAI.

Irish and UK audiences will get the chance to see ‘Rosie’ this Autumn when it’s released through Element Pictures Distribution.
