Irish animated feature film ‘Song of the Sea’ is currently in pre-production, with production scheduled to begin in January.
The film, from Oscar-nominated animators Cartoon Saloon, which is behind ‘The Secret of Kells’ and ‘From Darkness’, is a co-production with studios from Ireland, France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Denmark.
‘The Secret of Kells’ director and co-founder of Kilkenny-based Cartoon Saloon, Tomm Moore, is directing ‘Song of the Sea’.
Irish acting talent such as Brendan Gleeson, Fionnula Flanagan, Pat Shortt, Jon Kenny and David Rawle, and singer Lisa Hannigan, have all done voice over work on the animation.
Additional crew on board the feature includes, for Cartoon Saloon, art director Adrien Merigeau, Daniel Christensen who worked on the storyboard, Sean McCarron who is the lead animator, Nora Twomey, head of story and Fabien Erlinghauser who is assistant director. Ross Murray and Paul Young are also producing for Cartoon Saloon.
Moore is currently sharing developments of the feature on a blog he has set up especially for the film.
Studio Canal will distribute ‘Song of the Sea’ in Ireland and the UK in 2014.
