FESTIVALS | 16 Irish Titles for Cannes
Cannes
The Irish Film Board (IFB) has today announced the Irish films that are set to screen at this year's Cannes Film Festival. The projects being shown at the market event include Ripple World Pictures' 'Parked'; Parallel Films' 'Albert Nobbs' and Fastnet Films' 'The Runway. Saturday, May 14th will play host to the annual drinks reception held by the IFB and Culture Ireland. more
FEATURE | Katie Holly on 'One Hundred Mornings'
One Hundred Mornings
Conor Horgan's apocalyptic feature, 'One Hundred Mornings' starts its limited theatrical release on May 6th. The film, produced by Bl!nder Films' Katie Holly centres on two couples hiding out following an unknown apocalyptic disaster. Saturday, April 30th saw Oscar nominee Peter O'Toole joined by friends and family as he had his hands and feet enshrined in the in the foyer of the Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. O'Toole was joined by other Irish and international stars on the day including Rose McGowan (The Black Dahlia), Angelica Huston (The Dead), Richard Benjamin (Deconstructing Harry) amongst many others. more
AWARDS | British Soap Nods for Scanlan and Duffy
Emmet J Scanlan in 'Hollyoaks'
Irish actors, Emmett J Scanlan and Keith Duffy have both nabbed nominations at the 2011 British Soap Awards. Emmet has been nominated in four categories including Best Actor, Best Newcomer, Villain of the Year and Best On-Screen Partnership with co-star Kieron Richardson for his work on 'Hollyoaks' whilst Keith is one of the nominees in the awards' Sexiest Male category. more
PRE-PRODUCTION | Mind the Gap Prep 'Irish Beauty Queens'
Beauty Queens
Mind the Gap Films are currently in pre-production on 2 x 50 minute documentary series, 'The Last Irish Beauty Queens' for TV3. The two-part series, directed and produced by Bill Hughes (Celebrity Jigs and Reels), will look at the culture of beauty pageants held in various small Irish towns around Ireland. more

COMPETITIONS| Storyland Finalists Announced
This year's three RTÉ Storyland finalists have been announced. The projects shortlisted include 'Lucky Run'; 'The Outlaw Concy Ryan' and 'The Last Security Man'. The three teams remaining will now go into production on their final webisodes which will be uploaded on May 25th with this year's winner being announced on June 1st.more

BROADCAST | May 13th RTÉ Premiere for 'Camelot'
Irish historical drama, 'Camelot' will receive its Irish TV premiere on Friday, May 13th. The broadcast comes ahead of the series' June broadcast on Channel 4 and will launch with the back-to-back transmission of the first two episodes of the show at 9:30pm and 10.30pm on RTÉ Two.more
INDUSTRY | BAI Publishes Right of Reply Scheme
The new BAI Right of Reply Scheme will come into effect from Wednesday, May 4th and will provide for the broadcast of a Right of Reply Statement that will allow individuals to put right incorrect information which has been broadcast and which has resulted in a person's honour or reputation being impugned. more
EVENTS | Fujicolor Introduces ETERNA
Fujifilm Motion Picture will be demonstrating its new Fujicolor ETERNA Vivid colour negative film stocks at an exclusive event in Dublin on Thursday, May 5th that will be run with the Irish Film and Television Academy. The ETERNA Vivid range consists of Vivid 160T, Vivid 500T and the new Vivid 250D. The event will also see the launch of Film First, a new processed paid film stock initiative. more

The inaugural Charlie Chaplin Comedy Film Festival will take place this year from the 25th to the 28th of August and submissions are currently being accepted. Charlie's daughter, Josephine is patron of the event which will look to celebrate the actor's work as well as the 'Chaplins of the Future'. more

The New Hope International Film Festival in Pennsylvania which runs from July 8th to 17th 2011, has chosen Sligo short film '…for peace comes dropping slow' for official selection. The film, conceived and directed by Sligo based artist Lisa Vandegrift Davala, was shot at a number of Sligo locations during the summer of 2010. more
