PRODUCTION | McKenna & McCann 'Jump!' NI Filming Underway

Production has commenced on the set of new Irish co-production, 'Jump!' from Dublin's Blinder Films and Northern Ireland's Hot Shot Films. Kieron J. INDUSTRY | MESH Liquidator to be Appointed April 12th

A creditors meeting was held on Friday, March 18th to discuss the future of Irish-based production outfit Magma European Scripting House (MESH). Approximately 20 of the body's 60 creditors met with the aim of appointing a liquidator for the company however none was appointed. A liquidator is now to be set at a meeting on April 12th. more
CINEMAS | Light House Cinema Taking "Action" Against Closure

Dublin's Light House Cinema Board Members are to meet this evening to discuss the upcoming High Court hearing of a petition to wind up the Smithfield based cinema. Disagreements regarding a rent increase lead to the issuing of a wind-up petition from John Flynn, the cinema's landlord but Light House cinema co-founder, Maretta Dillon tells IFTN the board members are hoping to negotiate the situation. more
PRODUCTION | Second Series of 'Love/Hate' Currently Shooting

Production is currently underway on the set of the second series of 'Love/Hate'. The first block of shooting, which is being directed by David Caffrey commenced two weeks ago in and around Dublin city and will continue for another two weeks. The second instalment of the series sees the return of cast members Robert Sheehan (Killing Bono); Aidan Gillen (Wake Wood); Tom Vaughan-Lawlor (Becoming Jane); Ruth Bradley (Grabbers); Ruth Negga (The Nativity). more

PRE-PRODUCTION | Julian Fellowes' 'Titanic' green lit
ITV Studios Global Entertainment, ITV Studios, Lookout Point, Global TV and ABC Television are currently in pre-production with 'Titanic', a new co-production which sees Samson Films' David Collins (The Moth Diaries) on board as one of the drama's co-producers. TV3 have already signed on as the Irish broadcaster for the grand scale drama, written by Julian Fellowes (Downton Abbey) which is to start shooting in Hungary later this spring.more
FESTIVALS | Irish Tribeca Premieres and Screenings Announced
The 2011 Tribeca Film Festival will play host to several Irish feature premieres and screenings including Alexandra McGuinness' 'Lotus Eaters' and Octagon Films co-production, 'The Hideaways' (previously entitled 'The Last Furlong'). Other Irish projects screening at the event include Element Pictures' The Guard' alongside Irish shorts, 'Noreen', Switch' and 'Pentecost'. more
DISTRIBUTION| 'Song of the Sea' Secures UK & Ireland Distribution Deal
The UK and Irish theatrical distribution rights for Cartoon Saloon's current feature production, 'Song of the Sea' have been nabbed by Optimum Releasing. Directed by Tomm Moore (The Secret of Kells) who co-wrote the feature with Will Collins (My Brothers), 'Song of the Sea' tells the story of the last Seal Child's journey home.more
BROADCAST | 'Mrs Brown's Boys' Re-commissioned by BBC & RTÉ
It has been announced that RTÉ is to reduce its workforce by between 50 and 60 people as a result of the broadcaster's adverse financial situation. RTÉ management told its unions on Friday, March 11th that a voluntary redundancy and early retirement scheme is being prepared which will be discussed at a further meeting on March 23rd. more
INTERVIEW | Alan Glynn, Irish Writer Talks 'Limitless' Movie
New thrill, 'Limitless' opens in cinemas across Europe today. The film is currently topping the U.S. box office and, to mark both events, IFTN caught up with Dublin author Alan Glynn whose first novel, 'The Dark Fields' was adapted by Leslie Dixon to become the film which stars Bradley Cooper (The Hangover), Robert deNiro (Goodfellas) ad Abbie Cornish (Bright Star). more

Element Pictures' 'The Guard' is one of 11 European films confirmed by European Film Promotion's (EFP) members to receive Film Sales Support (FSS) at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival. more
PRODUCTION | 'Éalú' Production Wraps
Magamedia are currently in production with the third series of drama-documentary series, 'Éalú'. The new installment is at the end of its shoot and production is to wrap on Sunday, March 27th. Directed by Paddy Hayes (Corp + Anam), this series will examine the Irish republican prisoners who escaped from Irish jails. more
FESTIVALS | Irish Selection at Budapest's Titanic Film Fest
Organisers of Budapest's 18th Titanic International Film Festival have introduced a new section to this year's event entitled Irish Selection. The new section of the festival looks to celebrate the Irish film industry and will include screenings of 'Savage', 'One Hundred Mornings', 'Perrier's Bounty' and 'Essential Killing'. more
FINANCE | UTV Group Revenue Rises 7% in 2010
UTV has released its preliminary results for the year ended December 31st 2010 which records a 7% growth in its group revenue to £120.2m from a figure of £112.1m at the end of 2009. Other highlights include a rise in group operating profit of 8% and a record pre-tax profits increase of 17%. more
