IFTN brings you a round-up of Creative Europe’s key updates including the latest round of Creative Europe MEDIA Co-development funding results, a webinar on Virtual Production, and inaugural writers’ room programme that will use virtual and augmented reality.
Irish Co-Development Funding Success
Congratulations to the three Irish companies whose projects were selected in the latest round of Creative Europe MEDIA Co-development funding results!
European Co-development funding supports the co-development of animation, creative documentary or fiction projects for cinema, TV or digital platforms. This funding strand encourages companies to develop works with high creative value, cultural diversity, and cross-border potential.
Commenting on these latest Irish results, Eibhlín Ní Mhunghaile, MEDIA Office Galway said: 'It's great to see Irish companies - including those receiving Creative Europe MEDIA support for the first time – collaborate with their European counterparts both as lead applicants and minority partners to co-develop new projects which have an international focus from the outset.'
Successful Irish Partner Projects:
- Down by the River (Feature Drama). Lead Partner: Morgan Creative (Ireland). Co-partner: Zul Filmes (Portugal). Award €77,147.
- Yesterday's Girl (Irish language series). Lead Partner: Tailored Films (Ireland). Co-partner: Beactive (Portugal). Award €120,000.
- Raan (Feature Drama). Lead Partner: Gifted Films (DE); Co-partners: Brightside / Wild Atlantic Pictures (Ireland); NFP Norway (NO), Award: €36,857.

Introduction to Virtual Production - Online 17th April
Creative Europe MEDIA Office Galway in association with the Erich Pommer Institut, and with the support of Coimisiún na Meán, will host a webinar on Virtual Production on Wednesday 17th April, 2024 from 1.30pm to 5.30pm. Register here on Eventbrite here to secure a place.
Virtual Production is a film-making method that combines virtual and physical worlds. It's one of the most important developments in film-making in recent years and is becoming a vital asset to the audiovisual industry.
This comprehensive webinar will introduce audiovisual professionals to the different kinds of virtual production. It will present the basics of how to run a virtual production and how the technology presents a key asset to content production.
The webinar – offered free of charge with the support of Coimisiún na Meán – will not only help participants understand its possibilities and provide an overview of helpful tools but will also touch upon the challenges that can arise while filming.
The webinar will feature presentations from Virtual Production Industry Experts, Louisa Bremner and Evgeny Kalachikhin. Following this Latvian Line Producer, Zane Buska will present a Case Study on the feature film The Book of Everything and on a short film, Limo. The Webinar will conclude with a Live Showcase from Virtual Production studio LED Unit in Latvia.
Words Across Europe – Virtual Writers’ Room
Created by Irish-based Wide Eye Films and co-funded by the European Union, WORDS ACROSS EUROPE will use virtual and augmented reality for the inaugural writers’ room programme. With a net zero carbon footprint, WORDS ACROSS EUROPE has created a programme beyond the realms of Zoom, transcending geographical boundaries to bring together diverse talents from across the European Union.
The sessions run over a nine-week period from May and will take place in an augmented reality writers’ room using the latest Meta technology to give participants the immediacy of being side by side in the same space.
WORDS ACROSS EUROPE, an English-speaking course, has a limited number of 9 places available, with all successful participants provided with the technology, training and support to complete the programme. A payment of €1,000 will also be paid to participants who complete the 9-week programme.
