National Museums Northern Ireland
Explore. Engage. Enjoy.

We’re here to explore.

Across four unique sites, we care for and present inspirational collections that reflect the creativity, innovation, history, culture and people of Northern Ireland and beyond.

Inspirational Locations

From our hearth fires and working farmyards to our galleries of mighty steam locomotives and vintage cars, filmmakers and professional photographers are spoilt for choice by the fascinating and accessible locations on offer at National Museums Northern Ireland.

The impressive surrounds of the Ulster Folk & Transport Museum, Cultra and the Ulster American Folk Park, Omagh, provide fabulous backdrops for local and visiting productions teams seeking unique and authentic locations.  Previous projects have ranged from photoshoots, television commercial production and education based projects to light entertainment programmes, historical period dramas and documentaries.

Ulster Folk & Transport Museum

Set in over 170 acres of rolling countryside, the past has been precisely and painstakingly recreated in incredibly picturesque locations at the Ulster Folk and  Transport Museum.  Over 50 exhibit buildings including, the 1900’s Ulster town of Ballycultra, illustrate a way of life from 100 years ago. Our transport Museum, one of the finest in Europe, displays Ireland’s largest and most comprehensive transport collection, from horse-drawn carts to Irish built motor cars and from wonderfully preserved majestic steam locomotives to ship and aircraft building.

  • Only 10 minutes outside Belfast.
  • The benefit of the rural landscape of yesteryear with its farms, cottages, traditional crops and local breeds of livestock, as well as the townscape of Ballycultra with its shops, churches, schools and bank.
  • Costumed visitor guides available if required.
  • National Museums staff to assist if required.
