Patrick Kielty had his Late Late Show debut on Friday, September 15th, with a peak audience of 934,000 viewers overall, and 158,000 streams on the RTÉ player. This marks the highest ever number of streams for a Late Late Show opening on the RTÉ player.
Last Friday, Patrick Kielty began his tenure as the 4th presenter of The Late Late Show, following Ryan Tubridy’s departure from the late night chat show. The show recorded a peak audience of 934,000, with an average audience of 830,000. On the RTÉ player, there were 158,000 streams of the show, marking the highest number of streams for an opening Late Late show on the streaming service. There was a 65% audience share among Adults aged 25-44 for the show.
Guests included Tommy Tiernan, former President Mary Mary McAleese, footballer James McClean, and The 2 Johnnies. There was also live music from Chasing Abbey.
RTÉ announced Permanent TSB as the new sponsor of The Late Late Show on the day of Patrick Kielty’s debut. They have replaced long-running sponsor of the show, Renault, following a controversial period for the broadcaster and former Late Late presenter Ryan Tubridy, during which time the details of the ‘Tripartite Agreement’ between Renault, RTÉ and Ryan Tubridy were called into question before the Oireachtas Public Accounts Committee.
Last weekend, saw other significant viewing figures for RTÉ, with an audience of 965,000 tuning in to watch Ireland v. Tonga in the Rugby World Cup. There were 162,000 streams of Ireland v Tonga on RTÉ Player.
In drama, Fair City had an average audience of 257,000 (61,000 streams on RTÉ player) and episode 3 of Hidden Assets season 2 had an average audience of 218,000 (75,000 streams).
