Boyne Valley International Film Festival is now open submissions for their 2024 festival via FilmFreeway.com. The early-bird deadline is January 31st 2024 and entry is €5.
Presented by Droichead Arts Centre and Support by Love Drogheda BID this three day event will take place in Drogheda from August 9th to 11th, 2024. Over the last two years the festival has proved popular with audiences and filmmakers alike.
“We hope to build on the success of the last two years and add more special events, screenings, workshops and panels,” said co-director Frank W. Kelly. “The standard in short films is so high at the moment, we’re excited to see what’s new.”
The festival includes 7 awards with a prize of €1000 for the winner in each category. There is a Short Script Bursary with a prize €2500, each finalist also receives €500.
There is also a Filmmaker in Focus Award. The filmmaker is selected by directors Frank W. Kelly and Collette Farrell. They receive a dedicated programme of their work during the festival and €2000. Recipients so far have been Roisin Kearney, Clare Monnelly and Aaron Monaghan.

BEST INTERNATIONAL NARRATIVE SHORT FILM - Cash Prize of €1000
BEST ANIMATED SHORT FILM - Cash Prize of €1000
BEST DOCUMENTARY SHORT FILM - Cash Prize of €1000
FILMMAKER IN FOCUS - BVIFF will choose a filmmaker and screen a curated programme showcasing their work, followed by a Q&A. The Filmmakers are also awarded a bursary of €2000.
SHORT FILM BURSARY - Entrants are invited to submit a one or two page pitch for a short film script. Three filmmakers will be shortlisted by a panel, awarded a bursary of €500, and each will be invited to present their short film idea to the panel during the festival. One lucky filmmaker will be chosen, and further awarded a bursary of €2,500 to write the script, plus a studio space for 6 months in Droichead Arts Centre, Barlow House. They will also be invited back for a live cast reading of their script at the following year’s festival.
The festival welcomes applications from filmmakers whose voices are currently under-represented in the Irish film sector. For more information in regards to submissions, email admin @ droichead.com
