Juno Films has acquired North American distribution rights to Rachael Moriarty and Peter Murphy’s heartfelt family drama Róise and Frank, which took home the Audience Choice Award at both Santa Barbara Film Festival and Sonoma International Film Festival.

According to the North American distributor, Juno intends to release the film theatrically in early 2023 to brighten the gloomy days of winter.

The charming film follows grief-stricken widow Róise who becomes convinced that a stray dog is her husband Frank reincarnated. As Róise begins to open herself back up to the outside world and regain the family and community connections that she had lost, she allows her canine companion to coach the local junior high’s Hurling team, who under Frank’s tutelage reach new goals on the field and off.

“Róise and Frank is a charming and delightful film that highlights the power of family ties, of hope, and of love,” said Juno Films CEO, Elizabeth Sheldon. “It brings a warm touch to the universal experience of grief and loss through the special bond between a motley, Hurling-loving stray dog and his new owner, the recently widowed Róise.”

The producers of Róise and Frank, Cúán Mac Conghail and Ceoladh Sheahan at Irish production company Macalla Teo, negotiated the deal with Sheldon on behalf of the filmmakers. “We are absolutely thrilled to be working with Juno Films and so excited to be bringing Róise & Frank to an international audience,” said the Macalla team.

Juno Films is a boutique film distributor and world sales agent. Some of the company’s recent releases include Tinna Hrafnsdóttir’s Icelandic drama Quake, Andres Allegria and Abel Sanchez’s doc A Song for Cesar, and Antonio Tibaldi’s sci-fi thriller We Are Living Things

Róise & Frank is currently playing in cinemas through-out Ireland.
