‘Teenology’, a new series from leading animation company Brown Bag Films (Crap Rap, Give Up Yer Aul Sins) kicked off last Tuesday evening on RTE Two.
The 30 x 1’ animated series for young people, created and directed by Bronagh O’Hanlon, features a team of ‘teenologists’, who give a step-by-step guide to correct behaviour for all self-respecting teenagers. In each episode Fionn, Shazzer, Mulvey and Trish will demonstrate the five essential rules required for all important adolescent situations including dancing, dramatic exits, cheating, vegetarianism and scabbing money.
O’Hanlon, who works as a commercial director with Brown Bag films, also animated the series along with Brown Bag’s animation team including David O’Brien, Shawna Mauchline, Erica Lack, Dan Mitchell and Kelley Gunning.
‘Teenology’ began production in March of this year, with animation work continuing over three months, the majority of the work being completed on Flash and Photoshop.
O’Hanlon gathered stories of adolescent angst from friends and family when researching the series.
“I talked to friends and we reminisced about time in school,” she says to IFTN. “I also interrogated the poor kids that were on work experience for stories, they got their brains picked! Friends and family of older people gave there input on what they used to get up to as teenagers, and its funny, all the things kids did in the past, they’re still doing now.”
The series, executive produced by Cathal Gaffney and Darragh O’Connel, was edited by Seamus O’Toole and features original music and sound design by Darren Hendley. Script editor was Jennie Stacey, with voices by Sadhbh Ahern, Rory Bresnihan, Allan Keating,
Aileen Mythen and Nicky Phelan.
‘Teenology’ airs at 6.59pm (straight after ‘Home and Away’) on RTE Two
