The North American rights to the feature film have been acquired by the distributor, which is based in New York and one of three distribution labels owned by IFC Entertainment.
The feature project which recently screened at TIFF 2016 is based on the real-life friendship between political enemies in Martin McGuinness and Ian Paisley during The Troubles in Northern Ireland.
BAFTA-winning Nick Hamm (The Hole) directs the screenplay penned by Colin Bateman (Unhappy Endings). Tomothy Spall and Colm Meany lead the cast as the political leaders, also featuring Freddie Highmore (Bates Motel), John Hurt (V for Vendetta) and Catherine McCormack (Braveheart).
Nick Hamm, Director:
“I’m excited that ‘The Journey’ will have such a prestigious and intelligent distributor behind the film. It’s a powerful story about peace and reconciliation that I’m thrilled will be seen by a wide audience, and I couldn’t wish for a better partner than IFC Films.”
Jonathan Sehring, Co-President of IFC Films and Sundance Selects:
“We at IFC Films were immediately enthralled with the film and are always excited at the opportunity to work once more with IM Global. Timothy Spall and Colm Meaney imbue their characters with such charisma and provide a master class in acting.”
Previous titles distributed by IFC Films include ‘Boyhood’, ‘Tiny Furniture’ and ‘Che’.
