Organisers of Budapest’s 18th Titanic International Film Festival have introduced a new section to this year’s event entitled Irish Selection. The new section of the festival looks to celebrate the Irish film industry and will include screenings of ‘Savage’, ‘One Hundred Mornings’, ‘Perrier’s Bounty’ and ‘Essential Killing’.

Brendan Muldowney's IFTA winning debut feature, ‘Savage’ stars Darren Healy (Once) and Nora-Jane Noone (The Descent) and tells the story of a news photographer who, following a vicious assault, drifts into derangement as he changes from a victim to a revenge obsessed aggressor. The film was directed by Brendan Muldowney (Innocence) and produced by Conor Barry (Ten Steps) for SP Films and was funded by the Irish Film Board.

‘Savage’ is now available to buy on DVD/download in Ireland through High Fliers Films. The feature has also been selected to screen at the OFF Plus CAMERA International Festival of Independent Cinema in Krakow that takes places between the 8th and the 17th April.

Produced by Katie Holly for Bl!nder Films and written and directed by Conor Horgan, ‘One Hundred Mornings’ is set in a world upended by a complete breakdown of society, two couples hide out in a lakeside cabin hoping to survive the crisis. The film stars Ciaran McMenamin (The Last Confession of Alexander Pearce, Outcast), Alex Reid (The Descent), Rory Keenan (Zonad, The Guard) and Kelly Campbell (Bachelors Walk, Sensation).

‘Perrier’s Bounty’, written by Mark O' Rowe (Intermission) and directed by Ian Fitzgibbon (A Film With Me In It), is produced by Parallel Films’ Alan Moloney (The Escapist). Set in contemporary Dublin and starring Cillian Murphy (Inception) and Brendan Gleeson (Into the Storm) in the lead roles, ‘Perrier’s Bounty’ is a comedy-thriller featuring three unlikely fugitives on the run from gangster supremo, Perrier, who is desperate to retain his pride and cash after the accidental murder of one of his loyal gang.

Element Pictures’ ‘Essential Killing’ is an Irish/Polish/Norwegian/Hungarian co-production directed by veteran Polish director Jerzy Skolimowski (Moonlighting). Starring Vincent Gallo (Buffalo ‘66), ‘Essential Killing’ tells the story of an Afghan man, captured by American forces in Kabul, who finds himself transported to a nameless European country. He manages to escape into the vast frozen woodland and is forced into extreme survival mode where he must kill anyone who strays into his path. ‘Essential Killing’ will receive a limited Irish theatrical release on Friday, April 1st.

Running from the 7th to the 17th April, the Titanic International Film Festival, Budapest’s best known film festival runs over 10 days in four cinemas in the city. The festival’s Irish selection is presented with the support of the Irish Film Institute, Culture Ireland, Reel Ireland, and the Irish Embassy of Hungary.
