IFTN understands that a liquidator has been appointed to Solas Galway Picture Palace. A creditors meeting was held on 21st June in Galway and a liquidator appointed
Documentas filed at CRO state that “That the company cannot by reasons of its liabilities continue in business, and that it would be wound up by way of a creditors voluntary winding up”.
Element Pictures will be completing the project (and re-launching the Cinemobile this summer), and has a 30 year lease from Galway City Council. As reported by the Connaught Tribune, the liquidation does not impact that arrangement.
When contacted, Lelia Doolan (Chair of Solas Galway Picture Palace Teoranta) said to IFTN, “Over ten years ago, Solas set out to build the Picture Palace, an arthouse cinema, for Galway. We came within sight of the finishing line but were not in a position to complete the work. This is now in the capable hands of Element Pictures who run the Lighthouse in Dublin and share our vision. As we exit the scene, we are proud that Galway cinemagoers will soon have a beautiful new amenity to add to the city's cultural life and that we had a part in bringing it about".
