TV3 have confirmed that it has commissioned a second series of ‘Gogglebox Ireland’ for the New Year.
One of TV3’s most popular programmes, reaching 375,000 viewers on average weekly. So far, over 1.3 million people have tuned in to watch the show on TV3.
Narrated by Deirdre O’Kane and Rory Cowan, Gogglebox Ireland is a show that sees Ireland’s most opinionated and avid TV viewers comment freely on the best and worst television shows of the past week.
Having only been on our screens just shy of nine weeks, the series has been a resounding success for TV3 with the Tully Twins from Cavan, Tracie and Anita from The Liberties, The Grufferty’s from Kildare and The Ryan’s from Limerick.
Bill Malone, TV3 Group Director of Programming, said: “We are delighted with the reaction to our first series of ‘Gogglebox Ireland’. The casting in superb, with the likes of the Tully brothers and Tracie & Anita really capturing Ireland’s love affair with TV, from the moments that make you think to those that make you laugh out loud. ‘Gogglebox Ireland’ is a testament to the quality of programmes on TV3 and series 2 is eagerly awaited.”
The casting team will be scouring the streets and sitting- rooms of Ireland once more, looking for potential telly addicts to join the existing ‘Goggleboxers’ for Series 2.
Looking ahead to the second series in the new year, Simon Proctor, Series Producer of ‘Gogglebox Ireland’ for Kite Entertainment, said: “Families, friends and partners can all be considered – two, three or four people who are already connected, so long as you are opinionated, funny, likeable, smart and have lots to say about what's on the box.
“Top of our list would be a member of the clergy so, if anyone has an aunt who happens to be a nun who loves her telly or knows a perfect priest, we would love to hear from them!”
