RTÉ Young Peoples Have A New Call For Ideas

RTÉ Young Peoples Programmes is delighted to announce that the 2017 Animated Shorts Scheme is open for submissions.

The budget available for each short will be up to a maximum of €10,000.

Closing date for submissions will be 12 Noon Wednesday 18th January 2017.

Following on the success of the Scheme in 2016 from which five shorts were commissioned, the 2017 scheme is seeking well developed proposals for animated shorts (duration: 90-120 seconds).

RTÉ aim to award contracts to up to five successful submissions. The total Scheme budget is €50,000.

They are interested in proposals for shorts which will be broadcast as part of the RTÉ children's schedule - on either RTÉjr (under 7s) or on TRTÉ on RTÉ2 (7-15s).

The successful shorts proposals will demonstrate strong character(s), strong narrative, an understanding of the target age-group, excellent visual design and quality writing.

All animation styles are eligible and encouraged - 2d, 3d, CG, stop motion, mixed. Projects which demonstrate an ability to deliver a unique short entertainment experience will be favoured. Shorts must be original and character-driven. Comedy is attractive but not necessary.

This scheme is open to all animators and creatives. In the case of new talent, partnering with an experienced animation producer is worth considering at proposal stage.

The shorts are an endgame in themselves however the scheme can also provide producers with an opportunity to develop and idea, to create a calling card for a bigger project. If you have a character you feel is worth exploring for any of these audiences, perhaps this scheme is for you.

Proposals will be judged primarily on their merits as stand-alone shorts.

Submissions should include a completed script, storyboard, character designs, budget, director's treatment and cvs for the key personnel attached to the project.

All of the shorts commissioned in the 2016 Animated Short Scheme are available to view on the RTÉ Player.
