George Dixon, Channel Controller of RTÉ One, is to leave RTÉ to take up a senior position with a UK broadcaster. The post of Channel Controller, RTÉ One, will be advertised in the coming week with an appointment made as soon as possible. Glen Killane, Managing Director RTÉ Television, is to take on the role of Channel Controller of RTÉ One in the intervening period.
Glen Killane has stated: “Since the restructure of RTÉ Television last year, the Television Board have worked to develop and implement a strategy to ensure that RTÉ One and Two are best placed to compete in an extremely competitive media environment. The appointment of Channel Controllers was a key to that strategy, which aimed to carve out an even stronger identity for our channels.
“In George’s time here, he has implemented the strategy for RTÉ One and the schedule is already in place for autumn 2014 and into 2015. There will now be an opportunity for someone new to work with the Television Board to further build on and strengthen RTÉ One’s position.
”I wish George all the very best in his new role and thank him for his contribution to RTÉ. His new appointment underlines how highly regarded RTÉ is in the international market and further demonstrates the highly competitive media environment in which we operate.”
