02 Apr 2013 : By Kevin Cronin
A series of film workshops and masterclasses aimed at young people aged 12-25 will form the central strand of the Coca-Cola Cinemagic International Film and Television Festival in Dublin this 13-19th May.

The ‘Talent Lab’ events, held in The Burlington Hotel, will cater for 16-26 year olds and feature some of the most talented individuals in the Irish film and TV industry with classes including: directing with Lenny Abrahamson; casting with John and Ros Hubbard; film production with Gareth Ellis-Unwin and Jessica Malik of Bedlam Productions; directing/production with Kieron J Walsh; television and music production with Ned O’Hanlon; writing and directing for film with Aisling Walsh; film production with Terry Bamber; and directing/acting with David Caffrey and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor.

The ‘Education Programme’, devised for 12-18 year olds, will comprise such highlights as an ‘Avengers Assemble’ and film stunts demonstration with Eimear O’Grady of the Stunts Guild of Ireland; a workshop on film reviews with Nuala Carey; an exploration of short films, animation, special effects and make-up; and an acting masterclass with Aidan Dooley.

Joan Burney Keatings, Cinemagic Chief executive, said: ‘Our programme has a vast range of films from around the world and our comprehensive education programme and talent lab masterclasses will give young people a valuable insight into various film and television disciplines.’

The public cross-border jury competition in Filmbase will also afford young people the opportunity to watch a series of short films and learn how to critically review them, while Cinemagic’s outreach programme will present a series of talent lab events in the F2 Centre Rialto and The Base, Ballyfermot.

As an added treat for movie enthusiasts, a series of public screenings in Cineworld will offer a selection of classic films on the big screen including 'Little Shop of Horrors', 'Empire of The Sun', 'A.I. Artificial Intelligence', 'The Karate Kid', 'Robocop' and 'Bugsy Malone'.
