Principal photography has concluded in Galway on Báite, the feature debut of Ruán Magan, produced by Danú Media.
Báite is an upcoming Irish language murder mystery set in 1975. The film is directed by Ruán Magan, and adapted for the screen by Sheena Lambert from her own novel, The Lake.
The synopsis for the film is as follows: "In the rural village of Glanaphuca, Peggy Casey is fighting to save her family's pub - and her family - so a body being discovered in the receding waters of the local manmade lake really is the last thing she needs.
"Now, Detective Sergeant Frank Ryan from Dublin is probing her with uncomfortable questions, her best customer has mysteriously disappeared, and her siblings, as always, are only causing her problems.
"The more Detective Ryan's investigation progresses, the more Peggy's life begins to unravel and soon it's clear that nothing in Glanaphuca will ever be the same again."
Báite’s cast includes Moe Dunford (Vikings), Eleanor O'Brien (The Wonder), Oisín Mistéil (Inis Meáin: Idir Dhá Linn), Fionnuala Gygax (The Vanishing Triangle), Denis Conway (Bodkin), Pádraig Ó Loingsigh (Split Second), and Mark MacGearailt.
The film is produced by Siobhán Ní Ghadhra and John Brady for Danú Media, with support from TG4, Screen Ireland, and Coimisiún na Meán as part of the Cine4 scheme.
