A reboot of The Naked Gun franchise starring Liam Neeson is moving ahead at Paramount, with a release date slated for July 18th, 2025.
Liam Neeson (The Land of Saints and Sinners) is set to star as Frank Drebin, as popularised by Leslie Nielsen (Airplane!), in a currently untitled reboot to be directed and executive produced by Akiva Schaffer (Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping), who co-wrote the draft script alongside Dan Gregor (How I Met Your Mother) and Doug Mand (Doolittle). The trio previously collaborated on Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers.
The project is a reboot of The Naked Gun film franchise and TV series Police Squad by Jim Abrahams, David Zucker and Jerry Zucker. 1988’s The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! follows incompetent police Detective Frank Drebin must foil an attempt to assassinate Queen Elizabeth II.
Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy) and Erica Huggins (The Dark Tower) are producing via their company Fuzzy Door.
The currently untitled project is set to be released on 18th July 2025.
