The international sales agent previously worked with the Irish studio on their Oscar-nominated and IFTA-winning ‘Song of the Sea’, and will be introducing ‘The Breadwinner’ to buyers in Toronto.
Cartoon Saloon’s most recent feature project is an Irish-Canadian co-production directed by Nora Twomey based on the bestselling novel by Deborah Ellis. Ellis co-wrote the screenplay with Anita Doron (The Lesser Blessed).
‘The Breadwinner’ is a co-production between Aircraft Pictures Canada, Luxembourg’s Melesine Productions and Cartoon Saloon in association with Angelina Jolie’s Jolie Pas Productions. Irish funding for the project includes support from the Irish Film Board, the BAI and RTÉ.
It was also announced last June that GKids, also attached to ‘Song of the Sea’, are exec producing alongside SVP. Studiocanal will distribute in Ireland and the UK, Elevation Pictures in Canada and GKids in the United States.
‘The Breadwinner’ is expected to release to Irish cinemas in 2017 and is currently in production in Cartoon Saloon, Co. Kilkenny.
