The jury for the 2008 Samhlaicht Kerry Film Festival (1 – 8 November) has been announced with Irish actor Liam Neeson (Schindler’s List, Batman Begins, Kinsey) and directors John Carney (Once) & Kirsten Sheridan (Disco Pigs) featured among the team of adjudicators.
Now in its ninth year, the Kerry Festival honours short films in five categories. Over four hundred films were submitted to the Kerry Film Festival this year, more than double the number of films submitted in previous years. The Kerry Film Festival is one of two major festivals to be held in the banner county as the Dingle Film Festvial is scheduled to commence on the 11th of September.
Heading the jury is Liam Neeson who will decide the Best Overall Film – which carries a €5,000 cash prize; while John Carney has been assigned to judge Best Irish Narrative Short; Kirsten Sheridan will determine the Best International Narrative Short; and Vanessa Roth, producer of the Oscar winning documentary short ‘Freeheld’, will choose the Best Documentary Short. Finally, animator Suzie Templeton (Stanley, Peter & the Wolf) rounds out the jury deciding the winner of Best Animated Short.
