Rising Irish writer/director Rebecca Daly has been chosen to participate in the 16th edition of the Cannes Residence, a specialised programme designed to assist young directors in the production of their first or second feature films.
Daly, who scooped an IFTA in 2007 for her short film ‘Joyriders’, will join five other international directors in Paris for a four month session, where they will meet with experienced film-makers and industry professionals to help them develop either their feature projects.
Rebecca Daly is currently developing her first feature project ‘The Other Side of Sleep’ with writing partner, Glenn Montgomery. The film opens as a sleepwalker wakes in woodland clearing beside the body of a young woman. It explores themes of separateness, experience and biological legacy.
Selection for this edition of the Cannes Residence is presided by Cannes Film Festival president Gilles Jacob. The Residence programme, established in 2000 by the Cinefondation, has welcomed more than 90 directors from around the world and aided over 50 features find recognition at international festivals. Success stories include ‘Caramel’ director Nadine Labaki and Goya winning Spanish helmer Jaime Rosales (Solitary Fragments).
