 Background:
Dun Laoghaire Further Education Institute (formerly DCFE), Cumberland St, Dun Laoghaire, has been providing training in Television, Video, Radio, Print Journalism, and Photography since 1992. Over the years it has developed and created new courses to meet the ever changing demands from those seeking to enter the media sector.
The following are some of the media courses offered from September 2013
AV5 - Certificate in Audio Visual Media Production (EMPXX FETAC Level 5)
This is a one year full time course designed to introduce the student to a range of techniques used in audio and visual media production. Students will acquire skills in Stills Photography and darkroom techniques, Television &Video Production, Avid Media Composer Editing, Radio Studio Production and Editing with Adobe Audition, Scriptwriting for Film TV and Radio.
Career prospects / progression: Graduates are prepared for entry into the audio visual media industries through the compilation of a portfolio of work.
There is also the option of progression to FETAC Level 6 Advanced Certificate EFTVP or EMPRO within the college, as well as progression to Diploma or Degree level through the Higher Education Links Scheme.
Certification: Students who successfully complete this course will achieve a FETAC Level 5 Award in Media Production (EMPXX) more info at www.dfei.ie
TVF5 - Certificate in TV & Digital Film Production (ETFPX FETAC Level 5)
This is a one year full time course designed to introduce the student to the foundations of Television and Digital Film production. Students will acquire skills in Television Electronic Field Production (EFP), TV Studio Production and Avid Media Composer Editing and Scriptwriting for Film TV and Radio. Students will produce a portfolio of work demonstrating technical competences and skills required for effective television and digital film production.
Career prospects / progression: Graduates are prepared for entry into the television and film industries through the compilation of a portfolio of work.
There is also the option of progression to FETAC Level 6 Advanced Certificate EFTVP within the college, as well as progression to Diploma or Degree level through the Higher Education Links Scheme.

TVF6 - Advanced Certificate in TV & Digital Film Production (EFTVP FETAC Level 6)
The Advanced Certificate in Television & Digital Film Production is a one year full time course designed to build on skills and knowledge acquired from Level 5 certificates in, Audio Visual Media Production (EMPXX), TV and Digital Film Production (ETFPX) or equivalent.
Mature students may also be considered on previous experience. Students will undergo extensive training in developing TV and digital film productions and be given the opportunity to find an area of production specialization. They will produce a body of work suitable for a working show reel using digital cameras, and Avid Media Composer and Adobe editing packages.
Course Content : Digital Film and Video Production, Documentary Production, TV and Video Reporting, Editing Practice and Techniques, TV & Video Studio Production, Scriptwriting for Film and TV, Working Freelance in the Media Industries, Production Management for Film and TV .
Career prospects / progression: Graduates are prepared for entry into the television and film industries through the compilation of a portfolio of work. They may also look at further studies at diploma or degree level.
Certification: Students who successfully complete this course module will achieve a FETAC Level 6 Award (EFTVP).
There are Higher Education Links established from this course with the Film School in IADT via the CAO and Advanced Entry Application.

RB5 Certificate in Radio Broadcasting (ERPXX FETAC Level 5)
This course is aimed at anyone interested in radio broadcasting. It is designed to provide a mix of essential background knowledge and practical radio production skills. Students will gain experience of recording in a fully digital environment using a purpose-built radio studio and editing suite equipped with the latest digital audio processing software.
Course Content : Radio Programme Production, Sound Engineering and Production, Media Analysis, Music Programming Planning for Radio, Libel and Defamation, News and Current Affairs for Radio, Word Processing, Communications, Work Experience
Career prospects / progression: Graduates will have completed a portfolio of radio work which may assist their entry into the commercial, public or community radio sectors. There is also the option of progressing to Radio Broadcasting Level 6 EMPRO or to third level colleges via the Higher Links Scheme.
Certification: Students who successfully complete this course will achieve a FETAC Level 5 Award in Radio Production (ERPXX).
RB6 Advanced Cert in Radio Broadcasting (EMPRO FETAC Level 6)
This course is aimed at anyone interested in developing and applying basic radio production skills. The course is designed to provide advanced knowledge and practice in the areas of broadcast voice presentation, digital audio processing, radio documentary production and radio journalism. Students on this course will gain direct broadcasting experience through the operation of a temporary licence radio station.
Course Content: Advanced Radio Techniques, the Broadcast Voice, Radio News Broadcasting, Radio Documentary Production, and Digital Audio Processing, Media Industry Awareness, Working in the Media Industries, Legal and Ethical Issues for Media and Communications
Career prospects / progression: Graduates will have completed a portfolio of radio work, including direct broadcasting experience which may assist their entry into the commercial, public or community radio sectors. There is also the option of progressing to third level through the Higher Links Scheme.
Certification: Students who successfully complete this course will achieve a FETAC Level 6 Award (EMPRO) Higher Links are presently being developed with third level colleges.
Entry Requirements: FETAC Level 5 Radio Production (ERPXX) or relevant experience.
