The TG4 television series ‘The Quiet Postman’ has won fans across the globe through a number of recent in-flight entertainment deals secured with 10 different airlines worldwide.
Created in 2003 by Galway based production company, Abu Media, the non-verbal slapstick comedy show has become a hit with airlines in the Middle East and Far East. Directed by the late Denis Kirkland (who had previously directed several ‘Benny Hill’ series) the series has been sold through Dublin TV distribution company Network Ireland Television to airlines including; Malaysian Airways, Air Arabia, Malev (Hungary), Kenya and Ethiopian Airlines.
This added success comes after the first season was nominated for the prestigious Rose D’Or TV Awards in Montreux in 2003 and Abu’s Pierce Boyce confirms pre-production is due to start on the third series of the popular show within the coming weeks.
Derry O’Brien, Managing Director of Network Ireland Television, says “The buyers tell us that they see Postie, played delightfully by John Nee as the natural alternative to Mr. Bean, which has been a staple of in-flight entertainment packages for years. However, the sky is not the limit with this show, as we also have interest from several overseas broadcasters and have just sold it to a Korean Internet TV Company.”
