Ahead of the series’ second season, Prime Video has announced that Ciarán Hinds will be joining the cast, along with Rory Kinnear and Tanya Moodie.
The trio of actors are said to have recurring roles in the upcoming season, however character details are currently under wraps. Production on the season is currently underway in the UK.
Hinds (Kin), Kinnear (Men) and Moodie (Empire of Light) are joining a sizable cast with The Rings of Power already having 23 series regulars in the form of elves, ents, dwarves, harfoots, orcs and humans.
The announcement of Hinds addition to the cast follows news of a number of new cast members, including Oliver Alvin-Wilson, Stuart Bowman, Gavi Singh Chera, William Chubb, Kevin Eldon, Will Keen, Selina Lo, Calam Lynch, Gabriel Akuwudike, Yasen “Zates” Atour, Ben Daniels, Amelia Kenworthy, Nia Towle and Nicholas Woodeson.
The epic drama series is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, taking viewers back to the Second Age of Middle-earth's history. No official synopsis for season two has been released yet, leaving fans to speculate online where the series may be headed.
Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power was developed for television by showrunners Patrick McKay and John D. Payne, and is produced by Amazon Studios, New Line Cinema, and Warner Bros. Television. The series is also produced by Christopher Newan and Ron Ames.
The second season is expected to release in 2024.
