The National Film School at IADT is the centre of excellence for education and training in film, animation, broadcasting and digital media. This status is based on the consistently high achievements of its student productions in both professional competitions and festivals, at home and abroad; the careers of its graduates in the entertainment and media industries; and on the excellence of its staff. IADT's full-time and part-time staff possess considerable industry experience and a high proportion continue to work as practitioners.

 

Postgraduate Courses

MA in Creative Production + Screen Finance
This programme will preach art but teach commerce, training creative and entrepreneurial producers not how to make a movie but how to get a movie made. This one year MA is aimed at individuals who have a strong idea for a film, documentary, drama or TV series and want to learn the intricacies of the commercial side of this creative industry.

MA in Broadcast Production for Radio + Television
This production-centred course will be of interest to graduates of any discipline who wish to acquire practical production skills in radio and television broadcasting.

MA in Screenwriting for Film + Television
This MA gives writers the opportunity to explore, experiment and learn the craft of screenwriting, in conjunction with the development and writing of a full-length screenplay.

Certificate Courses

Certificate Multi camera television

This extensive 5-week course provides you with the opportunity to develop your own abilities and gain new, unique skills as you produce, direct and crew a multi-camera studio production. You will lead teams and collaborate with others to create an ‘as live’ studio programme for any audience, broadcaster or platform.

Certificate Production Management for Animation

This course will provide learners with a command of the practical management of industry standard digital animation productions, primarily 2D animation but also 3D and VFX.

Certificate in Radio Production

The intensive 6-week course will immerse you in a real world newsroom, radio studio and location production environment so that you develop your production skills and gain a significant command of technical abilities required of all forms of broadcast radio and podcasting.

This is an ideal course for those who want in-depth, real and the industry standard practical skills required of video or mobile journalists. Learn how to produce and direct a short documentary or narrative video package to Irish and European broadcast standards.

Certificate in Single Camera Production

This is an ideal course for those who want in-depth, real and the industry standard practical skills required of video or mobile journalists. Learn how to produce and direct a short documentary or narrative video package to Irish and European broadcast standards.

This is an intensive 6-week course where you will learn from active practitioners in the industry standard facilities of the National Film School.

Certificate in Writing Television Drama

This course is designed to guide the learner writer through the development and writing process for television drama. You will learn the craft of TV drama writing that will enable you to complete a pilot or episode of a TV drama to a professional standard.

The curriculum will map the development stages of any TV drama concept so that you can apply those skills to future projects. You will be required to evaluate a personal and professional strategy for the development of any work in the context of the screen industries.

Steve O’Reilly graduated from the MA in Broadcast Production for Radio + Television in 2016, he is now a Television Director, Director of Photography and educator who is based in Dublin working for Irish and international clients. 

Lauren Rol

Lauren Rol graduated from our MA in Broadcast Production for Radio + Television in May last year. She has already gone on to work in London within the television industry and thanks the MA for giving her skills and confidence to work within her chose
