The Belfast Film Festival has launched the latest addition to its summer programme of events: ‘Pull Focus’ Festival – A celebration of contemporary documentary, with a focus on Irish and Northern Irish documentary making.
Irish documentary on both sides of the border is fast becoming world-renowned and increasingly prolific, and Pull Focus provides an opportunity to showcase these films. This programme celebrates the best new documentaries being produced.
Speaking about ‘Pull Focus’, festival programmer Stuart Sloan said:
“The selection of documentaries explores issues very important to our society, personal and public. We hope that our programming continues to contribute in serious and fun ways, to the broader critical discourse on equality.
Documentaries will be screening throughout the month of August, kicking off on Thursday 9thAugust with ‘The Image You Missed’, Donal Foreman’s meditation on his father, Arthur McCaig’s, filmmaking legacy in Northern Ireland (including Irish Ways and Patriot Games). The closing film is the international world premiere of Sean Murray’s ‘Unquiet Graves’, a powerful and visceral examination of collusion and the search for justice in Northern Ireland.
Fresh from the Cannes Film Festival, Mark Cousins will also present his latest documentary hybrid ‘The Eyes of Orson Welles’ - a love letter to one of cinema’s great artists. All these filmmakers will be present to talk about their work.
The new mini-festival, which takes place next month, will run from Thursday, August 9th - Tuesday, August 21st.
