The annual festival which was originally founded in 2013 ran from October 9th-16th, housed this year in The Blacknight Festival Centre based in the original Kino Cinema Co. Cork.
Record numbers were recorded for IndieCork 2016, with organisers noting a 20% increase in audience figures.
Screenings such as opening film ‘Dead Along the Way’ at the Gate Cinema, which was attended by cast and crew sold out, in addition to events such as Film Feast at the Kino.
Úna Feely, Festival Co-Director:
“Our ethos of providing a festival rooted in collaboration has once again proven to be very rewarding. We want to pay particular thanks to our sponsors this year The Rising Sons Brewery, Blacknight Solutions and Cork City Council. The festival simply would not be possible without them.”
Best Creative Cork Award: ‘Date Night’, Ross Carey
For his formally inventive yet deeply moving exploration of love and grief we were unanimous in giving the award to Ross Carey for the imaginative and affecting ‘Date Night’.
Best Irish Short: ‘Terminal’, Natasha Waugh
For its sensitive depiction of a younger and an older woman meeting in the departure lounge of an Irish airport. In ‘Terminal’, Natasha Waugh effectively conveys the private dramas of people’s lives affected by current public policy.
