Ciarán Hinds, Sinéad Cusack and English actor Rufus Sewell are to star in a €2.5m feature film adaptation of Irish writer John Banville's Booker Prize-winning novel 'The Sea'. The Irish/ English co-production will be directed by award-winning British director Stephen Brown (The Curious) and will be shot in Co Wexford - the novel’s setting - with producers Samson Films and Independent hoping to begin shooting in mid-September. more

A new series of 'Foyle's War' is to begin shooting in Ireland later this year, it has been confirmed. Producers of the popular British detective drama have confirmed to IFTN that they will film three feature-length episodes in Dublin and are currently scouting potential locations as pre-production gets underway. more
IN MEMORIAM | Members Of The Irish Film & TV Industry Pay Tribute To Maeve Binchy

Members of the Irish film and television industry have this morning paid tribute to best-selling novelist Maeve Binchy who has died aged 72 following a short illness. Ms Binchy was born in Dalkey in Co Dublin and sold more than 40 million books worldwide which were translated into 30 languages. Many of her novels and short stories have been adapted for both the big and small screen. more

BROADCAST | RTÉ Losses Grow To €16.8m Despite Cuts

RTÉ's net losses grew to €16.8m in 2011 following a further decline in commercial revenues and television licence fee income, its annual report showed on August 2. The loss came despite substantial cuts in the broadcaster's operating costs as the station put in place a number of measures to curb its ongoing expenses and reduced staff numbers. more

The first two episodes of the Sky 1 series, which was filmed in Boyle and at Ardmore Studios, Co Wicklow, earlier this year, will be screened on August 11 at Lough Key Forest Park.
