But when this hands-on experience involves dressing 170 extras just days before they are scheduled to shoot, and designing costumes for new characters that have been announced just two days before their fitting, at times the job can more tedious than thrilling. more

Irish actor Gabriel Byrne has been cast in upcoming Irish co-produced mini-series 'Vikings,' which will shoot in Co Wicklow this summer. Byrne will return to Irish shores to play Earl Haraldson, a political leader whose position is threatened by young descendant of the gods, Ragnor Lothbrok, who is attempting to become Kings of the Vikings. more

Ireland has signed a co-production treaty with South Africa at the Cannes Film Festival in a bid to forge closer links with each other's film industries. Minister of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Jimmy Deenihan flew in to Cannes yesterday (May 20) to formalise the treaty with South Africa's Minister of Arts and Culture Paul Mashatile. more

BROADCAST | Belfast To Get Local TV Station
Belfast is to get its own local TV station with UK media watchdog Ofcom inviting bidders to submit applications for the broadcast licence. Bidding is now open for the licence, which will provide a 12-month service to Belfast residents. Ofcom will make its final decision on applications in the autumn. more
