AWARDS | Young Irish filmmakers and animators honoured at Student Media Awards

Six student filmmakers, TV producers and animators were among the winners at last night's (April 26) National Student Media Awards in Dublin. A 500-strong crowd representing all colleges across the country packed out the Ballsbridge Hotel's conference room to collect 35 awards from media categories such as Editor of the Year and News Photographer of the Year. more |

Two film and TV production studios are to open in Cork as plans to promote the county as a prime production location to the international film industry get into full swing. DEVELOPMENT | Debut Novel Lands Film Deal For Irish Author Ava McCarthy |
Dublin-based author Ava McCarthy has signed a deal with Hollywood production company Polaris Pictures to bring her debut novel 'The Insider' to the big screen. Published in 2009, McCarthy's thriller was written following a hiatus from the software company job that inspired her novel. 'The Insider' is centred on a female former computer hacker named Harry Martinez, who has shifted careers to become a private eye. more |

Irish short film 'Kill Your Idols' is to begin shooting next month in Wicklow with Brendan O'Rourke (Free House) cast in the lead role. Dublin-based film and animation production house Ink and Light will produce the 12-minute live-action short with Leevi Lemmetty (Papa's Boy) set to write and direct and Tamsin Lyon set to produce. more |

Irish supernatural short 'Gallow Hill House' will begin production on location in Termonfeckin, Co Louth, next week. The production has been funded through public funding website Fund it. Writer Jonathan Hazlett told IFTN the crew surpassed their €1,500 aim by receiving a total of €1,600 in just two weeks.more |
