Zig and Zag: The Animated Series' is set to go into production this summer with a planned transmission date on CBBC and RTÉ for next year. Dublin's Double Z Productions and Co Down animation company Flickerpix are currently finalising the financing of the 2D animated television series, which will mark the return of the famous 1990s puppet duo . more

Production on TV3's much-anticipated six-part Irish drama series 'Tailors Hill' (working title) is to begin on June 18 in Galway. A strong team of soap and drama writers have been brought together to script the series, which has been created by 'Eastenders' and 'Holby City writer Gert Thomas. more

Irish novelist Colm Tóibín's best-selling novel 'Brooklyn' will be partly shot in Ireland early next year after being optioned by English production company Wildgaze Films. US actress Rooney Mara (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) is attached to the project and Oscar-nominated English writer Nick Hornby (An Education) adapted the book for screen. more

DIGITAL | Storyland Finalists Announced
Storyland finalists
The finalists of RTÉ's Storyland competition have been announced, with 'Student Teacher', 'The Begrudgers' and 'Trouble Times Three' left battling it out for the top prize. 'Hysteria', a Sixsem production Company production, received the fewest amount of votes in the last round, and will not progress to the final round. The production company still has a two out of three chance of snatching the Storyland 2012 title however, as remaining dramas 'The Begrudgers' and 'Trouble Times Three' are Sixsem productions. more

AWARDS | Young Irish filmmakers and animators honoured at Student Media Awards
Six student filmmakers, TV producers and animators were among the winners at last night's (April 26) National Student Media Awards in Dublin. A 500-strong crowd representing all colleges across the country packed out the Ballsbridge Hotel's conference room to collect 35 awards from media categories such as Editor of the Year and News Photographer of the Year. more

Two film and TV production studios are to open in Cork as plans to promote the county as a prime production location to the international film industry get into full swing. DEVELOPMENT | Debut Novel Lands Film Deal For Irish Author Ava McCarthy
Dublin-based author Ava McCarthy has signed a deal with Hollywood production company Polaris Pictures to bring her debut novel 'The Insider' to the big screen. Published in 2009, McCarthy's thriller was written following a hiatus from the software company job that inspired her novel. 'The Insider' is centred on a female former computer hacker named Harry Martinez, who has shifted careers to become a private eye. more
SHORTS| Irish Short 'Kill Your Idols' To Shoot in Wicklow
Irish short film 'Kill Your Idols' is to begin shooting next month in Wicklow with Brendan O'Rourke (Free House) cast in the lead role. Dublin-based film and animation production house Ink and Light will produce the 12-minute live-action short with Leevi Lemmetty (Papa's Boy) set to write and direct and Tamsin Lyon set to produce. more

The Irish version of 'Football's Next Star' has wrapped filming and is currently in post-production at Screen Scene in Dublin. Produced by Tyrone Productions for RTÉ, the show finished filming last weekend with scenes shot in locations including Dublin, Limerick and Glasgow. more

Colin Farrell has reportedly been offered the lead role in writer-director Akiva Goldsman's upcoming project 'Winter's Tale'. Farrell (Intermission, Ondine), who will next be seen in 'Total Recall', is the top choice for the Warner Brothers' backed movie and will star opposite 'Downton Abbey' actress Jessica Brown Findlay should he accept the role, according to Variety.more

The Huston School of Film & Digital Media at NUI Galway has launched the Pat Sheeran MA in Film Studies Scholarship in honour of the late NUIG Professor. The new scholarship will see up to €2,000 awarded to masters' students. more
SHORTS | Irish Supernatural Short to Begin Shoot in County Louth
Irish supernatural short 'Gallow Hill House' will begin production on location in Termonfeckin, Co Louth, next week. The production has been funded through public funding website Fund it. Writer Jonathan Hazlett told IFTN the crew surpassed their €1,500 aim by receiving a total of €1,600 in just two weeks.more
