AWARDS | 'Behold the Lamb' Wins at Thessalonaki & Arras Fests

John McIlduff's feature film debut ‘Behold The Lamb’ has picked up two wins this week. The film picked up the award for Best Screenplay at the Thessalonaki International Film Festival, in Greece. The film also picked up the l’Atlas d’Argent award for Best Director at the Arras in France.

FESTIVALS | 'Even Gods' Takes Irish Honours at Cork

With the closing of the 56th Corona Cork Film festival came the announcement of the winners in the best short competitions. With eight categories and over 90 short films to choose from,‘Even Gods’ by Phil Harrison came out on top with two wins at the festival, one in the Best Irish Short Film category and the other for the Audience Award.

SHORTS | Sideline teams up with The Rubberbandits CH4 Blaps

Sideline has produced three shorts written and preformed by Irish comedy duo The Rubberbandits for a new online initiative for Channel 4 in the UK.
The new initiative called Comedy Blaps, saw over 500 companies apply for eight slots from all over the UK and Ireland.

Last Friday saw RTÉ release figures detailing the earnings of its top ten earning presenters for 2009. The figures, which are released by RTÉ as part of an on-going process of voluntary disclosure by the broadcaster, detailed that the total of earnings of the top ten presenters in 2009 was €3.95m.

FESTIVALS | 'The Book Smugglers' included in Black Nights Festival

Irish production companies Planet Korda Pictures and Northern Irish Vinegar Hill’s co-production with Lithuanian production company Era Films, ‘The Book Smugglers’, a documentary which was directed and written by Jeremiah Cullinane( Hitlers Irish Movies, Dangerous Curves) co-founder of Planet Korda , will be screened at the 15th Estonian Black Nights Festival on the 26th November.

DISTRIBUTION | Miramax and Lionsgate Ink UK/Ireland Deal with Netflix

Netflix Inc. has announced the addition of Miramax films to it’s systems in the UK and Ireland after the signing of multi-year digital licensing agreement. This comes days after that announcement that Lionsgate, the UK based independent studio had signed a new multi-year licensing agreement with the movie subscription service.

A new book, ‘Contemporary Irish Film: New Perspectives on a National Cinema’, which was co-edited by Seán Crosson, Programme Director of the MA in Film Studies and the MA in Screenwriting at the Huston School of Film and Digital Media, NUIG, is being released which examines the last ten years of Irish cinema during ‘The Celtic Tiger’ era.

The IFI Film festival opens tonight with an open screening of ‘The Bird’. ‘The Bird’ is a drama about a woman who has no children, no friends and is visited at her home by a bird as she is coming to terms with her grief.
