Irish writer/director/producer Terry McMahon returned from the Galway Film Fleadh victorious, after his debut feature 'Charlie Casanova' won Best First Feature, a prize that was shared with Darragh Byrne's 'Parked'. In his IFTN Insiders Diary McMahon documents his 'Charlie Casanova' experience at the Fleadh, from remembering the polarised responses to the film (with one reviewer calling it "intolerable") to the ultimate reward as 'Charlie Casanova' came away with festival honours. more
PRODUCTION | 'Game of Thrones' Jobs Boost for NI Apprentices, Set Building Begins

The announcement that the second series of HBO fantasy series will again shoot in Northern Ireland has boosted the local economy, enabling Acapple Construction to hire apprentices to help build the new film sets. Work has already begun with Acapple Construction at Belfast's Paint Hall Studios. more

Dutch producer San Fu Maltha (Black Book) has spoken to IFTN about the experience of shooting his latest project 'Milo' in Ireland. The BAFTA nominated producer praised Ireland as a filming location and indicated a possible return saying "Ireland is a beautiful country, with nice and friendly people. It was certainly something I would do again. I believe there is a good future for Dutch-Irish co productions." more

The Irish Film Board is calling for applications to their short film scheme Signatures. The closing date for applications is Friday September 9th. The Signatures scheme is designed to enable the production of live-action, fiction short films and it aims to encourage strong, original storytelling, visual flair and production values appropriate to the big Screen. more

INTERVIEW | Ali Coffey Talks Online Casting at Fishpond.ie
After 15 years of drama and Television acting, Ali Coffey crossed to the other side of the camera and set up Ali Coffey Casting in 2001. Fishpond.ie is Ali's latest venture. Having spotted a gap in the market, she set up Fishpond in 2008. The online casting is a one stop shop for directors, producers and casting agents to search for Irish actors. It now has over 2,000 actors in its professional pool. IFTN caught up with Ali Coffey to find out more about her move into casting in the virtual world. more
