MARKET | Irish Companies Gear Up for MIPTV / MIP Doc 2011

Cannes' documentary and factual programme market, MIP Doc runs this year from the 2nd to the 3rd of April whilst its entertainment content counterpart, MIPTV takes place from the 4th to the 7th April. In the days before the two events, IFTN spoke with Enterprise Ireland and the Irish Film board as well as Irish production companies and distributors who are travelling over to the event. more

Belfast born double Oscar nominated screenwriter and director Terry George (Hotel Rwanda, In the Name of the Father) is to return to his home town in April to start shooting 'Whole Lotta Sole', a heist comedy starring US actor Brendan Fraser (The Mummy), and Irish actors Colm Meaney (Parked) and Martin McCann (Swansong: Story of Occi Byrne, Killing Bono). more
CINEMA RELEASES | Sheehan, Barnes, Hamm & McCormick are 'Killing Bono'

April 1st will see the Irish theatrical release of 'Killing Bono', an Irish comedy based loosely on Neil McCormick's autobiography which explores the hapless luck of his band when compared to that of his schoolmate, Bono. IFTN nabbed the film's stars, Ben Barnes and Robert Sheehan alongside director Nick Hamm and Neil himself to talk about alternative audition tapes, Robert's 'Pretty Woman' moment and the bittersweet experience of being part of the late Pete Postlethwaite's (Inception, The Usual Suspects) last film role. more
DOCUMENTARY | Former Man Utd. Boss Frank O'Farrell Subject of New Doc

Zoogon is entering pre-production with a new historical documentary for RTÉ One entitled 'Frank O'Farrell: the Shadow of Busby'. The feature doc will tell the story of Frank O'Farrell, a former Irish footballer who went on to take over from Matt Busby as manager of Manchester United. more

RTÉ Sport commissioning editor, Cliona O'Leary and assistant commissioning editor, Paula Fahy are currently inviting programme ideas for an 18 episode Sports series to compliment RTÉ Sport's GAA Championship coverage in 2011 that is to air on Wednesdays or Thursdays on RTÉ Two between 8:00pm and 8:30pm or 8:30 pm and 9:00pm. more
PRE-PRODUCTION | Fassbender & Holmes Feel 'Good Vibrations', Belfast Shoot Confirmed Shooting

Northern Irish production companies, Revolutions Films and Canderblinks are currently in development with 'Good Vibrations', a feature film centring around the Belfast-born founder of Good Vibrations records, Terri Hooley. The feature is scheduled to shoot in August 2011 in and around Belfast with actor Michael Fassbender (Hunger) signed on to appear. more

2011 marks the 19th anniversary of the GAZE film festival. The five-day cinematic showcase of Irish and International LGBT film will take place over the August bank holiday weekend and submissions are currently being accepted for a new competition entitled Absolut GAZE New Filmmakers Project. more
INDUSTRY | Light House Awarded Adjournment Period
Following a request from Alison Keirse BL, counsel for Dublin's Light House cinema, the High Court has granted the company an adjournment period until April 15th to allow the cinema's board of directors to discuss their plan of action in response to landlord John Flynn's wind up petition. more
DISTRIBUTION | Irish Cinematic Release for 'The Guard' in July
Element Pictures Distribution have announced that the nationwide Irish release of 'The Guard' will launch on July 8th 2011. Starring Brendan Gleeson (Perrier's Bounty) and Don Cheadle (Ocean's 11), the comic caper has enjoyed much international success already, opening the Sundance Film Festival and claiming the Best Debut Film award for John Michael McDonagh at the Berlin International Film Festival. more
BROADCAST | Wild Rover's 'Secret Fortune' Re-Commissioned
BBC Entertainment has re-commissioned Wild Rover's Saturday night format, 'Secret Fortune'. The new eight-part series produced by the Belfast production company will be recorded at BBC Scotland's Pacific Quay studios for BBC One this summer and will again be hosted by Nick Knowles (DIY SOS). more
PREVIEW | 'Camelot' First Look Preview with Morgan O'Sullivan
IFTA Members are set to get a sneak preview at the first two episodes of new epic Arthurian series, 'Camelot' on Wednesday, April 6th in Dublin. The special preview screening will be attended by members of the show's crew and will be followed by a Q&A session with producer Morgan O'Sullivan. more
PRODUCTION | 'Éalú' Production Wraps
Magamedia are currently in production with the third series of drama-documentary series, 'Éalú'. The new installment is at the end of its shoot and production is to wrap on Sunday, March 27th. Directed by Paddy Hayes (Corp + Anam), this series will examine the Irish republican prisoners who escaped from Irish jails. more
