REP-BODIES | New Irish Cabinet Unveiled
Pat Rabbite and Jimmy Deenhan
Wednesday, March 9th saw Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny formally elected as Taoiseach and one of his first acts in office was to announce his new cabinet of ministers. The position of minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources has been appointed to Labour T.D., Pat Rabbitte whilst that of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht has gone to Jimmy Deenihan. more
REP-BODIES | BAI to Allow Product Placement in Irish TV

The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) has announced its decision to permit paid product placement on Irish television. The change is one of a number to be included in the BAI's revised General and Children's Commercial Communications Codes which will take effect from Monday, May 2nd 2011. more
PRODUCTION | Thomsen & Richter Pick 'Flowers of Desire'

Pre-production will commence on Subotica's latest feature film, 'Flowers of Desire' in April and May with the film's shoot set to take place in June and July. The romantic drama, starring Ulrich Thomsen (Brothers, Centurion) and Sonja Richter (Open Hearts, Cecilie) is filming on Irish locations in Co. Wicklow and Dingle, Co. Kerry. more

FESTIVALS | 2011 Celtic Media Festival Programme Revealed
The 2011 Celtic Media Festival will take place this year on Scotland's Western Isles from the 13th to the 15th of April. The programme of events at the annual celebration of broadcast and film talent in the Celtic nations has been announced and features Cartoon Saloon's Tomm Moore, RTÉ Entertainment Commissioning Editor Eddie Doyle and dozens of Irish projects shortlisted for the festival's Torc awards. more
POST PRODUCTION | Docudrama 'Fág an Bealach' in Post Production
Tile Films is currently in post production with a new international two part HD Docudrama, 'Fág an Bealach' (Fighting Irish of the Civil War). The drama, written and directed by Keith Farrell (Ireland's Nazis) for TG4 and Smithsonian Channel USA stars IFTA nominated actor Don Wycherley (Rasaí na Gaillimhe) and is being edited in Dublin post houses Tangerine & Windmill Lane. more
FESTIVALS | Essential Killing Nabs Four Polish Film Awards
'Essential Killing' scooped four awards at the Polish Film Academy's 13th annual Polish Film Awards on Monday, March 7th. The feature came away from the event with the top prizes in the categories of Best Film, Best Director (Jerzy Skolimowski) , Best Music (Pawel Mykietyn) and Best Editing (Reka Lemenhenyi and Maciej Pawlinski). Furthermore Tribeca Film has signed on to distribute the feature in the U.S. more
FESTIVALS | ÉCU European Premiere for 'Charlie Casanova'
Irish feature, 'Charlie Casanova', independently produced, written and directed by Terry McMahon is to have its European premiere at the ÉCU European Independent Film Festival. The event will showcase 77 films from 26 countries from 1 - 3 April in Paris. more
BROADCAST | RTÉ/GFC Short Script Award Deadline 11 March
The deadline for the latest RTÉ/GFC Short Script Award submissions is Friday, March 11th. The competition, run by the Galway Film Centre, in collaboration with RTÉ will see two scripts selected from the submissions received. The production teams behind each of the two projects will each receive a sum of €9,500 to make their film. In addition, the Galway Film Centre will provide equipment and facilities and RTÉ will screen the finished film. more
TRAINING | Horgan and O'Brien Host Filmbase Workshop
Filmbase will host a workshop exploring the relationship between a film's director and director of photography on Tuesday, March 15th. The event, entitled Director & Director of Photography: Illuminating the Relationship will run from 3:00pm to 5:30pm and will be hosted by award winning director Conor Horgan and award winning director of photography Ruairi O'Brien. more
