DISTRIBUTION| NITV Nabs Oscar Nominated 'The Crush' & 'Wish 143'

NITV's Derry O'Brien has confirmed that his company's catalogue is now home to two Oscar nominated shorts including Michael Creagh's 'The Crush' and Ian Barnes' 'Wish 143'. Both shortsl competed last Sunday for an Academy Award in the category of Best Live Action Short.

FESTIVALS | Irish Films Land in Boston

IFTA nominated projects such as 'Parked', 'Deep End Dance' and 'The Runway' are all lined up to screen at the 12th annual Irish Film Festival, Boston later this month. The event will take place from the 24th to the 27th of March and will feature over 35 Irish films screening.

POST-PRODUCTION | Alexandra McGuinness Posting 'Lotus Eaters' |
Post work is currently being carried out on 'Lotus Eaters', a new feature film written by Brendan Grant and Alexandra McGuinness who is also directing. The drama stars Antonia Campbell Hughes (Bright Star), Benn Northover (Abyss), Cynthia Fortune (Every Thing) and Johnny Flynn (Crusade Jeans) .

ANIMATION | Niko Makes it a 'Family Affair'

Magma Films are currently in pre-production with a follow up feature to the EFA nominated co-production 'Niko and the Way to the Stars'. The follow up film, 'Niko: A Family Affair' is to go in to production in July of this year and is due for completion in April 2012. Magma Films will co-produce the new feature alongside Finland's Animaker Oy, Denmark's A-Film and Germany's Ulysses Films plan.more |

AWARDS | 'Spotlight: Iris Robinson' Clinches RTS Awards |
BBC Northern Ireland's IFTA winning current affairs programme, 'Spotlight' clinched two Royal Television Society (RTS) Journalism Awards at a ceremony held in London. The series' special programme, 'Spotlight: The Irish Robinson Investigation' won awards in the categories of Scoop of the Year and Nations and Regions Current Affairs and News Event. more |

FESTIVALS | JDIFF 2011 Comes to a Close |
The 2011 Jameson Dublin International Film Festival came to an end on Sunday, February 27th with a screening of Francois Ozon's comedic feature, 'Potiche' with the director in attendance. The event welcomed other international filmmakers including actors Martin Sheen and Kevin Spacey and comedian Richard Ayoade. Winners of both the festival's Volta awards and the UNTITLED Screenwriting competition were also lauded during the event. more |

AWARDS | Mons Film Festival Win for 'Five Day Shelter' |
Gerard Leonard's debut feature film, 'Five Day Shelter' has won the top prize in the Best First European Feature Film category at the Mons International Film Festival in Belgium. The Paradox Pictures film scooped the award from a shortlist of 11 films and nabbed the prize fund of €10,000. more |

BROADCAST | Stephen Fry Hits Tigh Thaidhg Tonight |
The 'Ros na Rún' episode featuring Stephen Fry is to broadcast tonight at 8:30pm on TG4. The 'Q.I Presenter' and award winning actor (Wilde) filmed his cameo appearance in the soap last December as part of a new BBC TV series on minority languages called 'Planet Word' and was invited to appear in 'Ros na Rún' during a visit to Connemara where he was exploring the origins of the Irish language.more |

PRODUCTION | Big Mountain Double Bill Approaches |
Monday 28th February will see two productions from Newry and Dundalk based Big Mountain Productions broadcast on BBC1 NI. On BBC2 NI at 10:00pm audiences can catch 'Imeall Geal', following which the Big Mountain team will ask 'Are You Related to an American President?' with an hour long documentary at 10:35pm. The group are currently in pre-production with a TV3 history series and a second series of 'Traffic Blues' for RTÉ. more |
