AWARDS | IFTA/ IFB Rising Stars Announced

The Irish Film Board (IFB) and the Irish Film and Television Academy (IFTA) have announced their Rising Star Award nominees for 2011. Those shortlisted by the groups include actress Antonia Campbell Hughes, actor Domhnall Gleeson and writer / directors Juanita Wilson and Ian Power. more

REP-BODIES | BAI Publishes Revised Election Coverage Code

The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland has published a revised Broadcasting Code on Election Coverage. The document includes a revised moratorium on election coverage that will restrict election coverage from 2pm on the day before the election until the closing of polling stations on the day of the election. more
SUBMISSIONS | RTÉ Young Peoples Invites Programme Ideas

RTÉ are currently accepting proposals for several genres of young people's programming. Ideas can now be submitted for programmes such as one-off documentaries, series of live action and animated shorts, along with Lifestyle/ Reality programming and holiday series. There is no official deadline in place for the submitted ideas but applicants are asked to send them in as soon as possible. more
'Charlie Casanova' to Premiere at SXSW
Independent Irish feature, 'Charlie Casanova' has been selected to have its world premiere as part of the Narrative Feature Competition at this year's South By Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival. The feature is the first non-American film to be selected in six years and the first Irish film ever selected for the Narrative Feature Competition. more

Home entertainment and communications company UPC has announced the appointment of Dana Strong to the role of Chief Executive Officer of UPC Ireland, which will take effect from May 1st, 2011. Dana is the successor of Robert Dunn, who has been appointed as Managing Director UPC Netherlands. more
BROADCAST| Growth in Audience Appetites for RAW
The current series of Ecosse films' IFTA nominated drama series 'RAW' has increased its audience from that of its previous series by over 100,000. The third instalment of 'RAW' has an average audience to date of 577,000 viewers and an average audience share of 33.7% more
BROADCAST| Moondance Let Back Out of The Zoo!
From Friday February 4th at 7.30 on RTE 1 a new ten part series of 'The Zoo' will look to bring the public closer to the enclosure's animals than they've ever been before as the cameras go behind the scenes with the zookeepers of Dublin Zoo.more

The deadline for this year's Galway Film Centre/ RTÉ Short Film Awards submissions has been announced as March 11th. A special launch event will be held on February 18th. In other news, March 25th is the deadline for the first round of the Filmbase/RTÉ Short Film Awards 2011.Finally, three short Irish animations are to broadcast in the coming weeks as part of RTÉ's Shortscreen Series. more

The Irish Film Board has announced the five films it has selected that have been shortlisted as part of their fourth annual Signatures Shorts funding scheme. These are Calico Pictures' 'Two Hearts'; Fastnet Films' 'Mikayla W.M.D'; Lovely Productions' 'Foxes'; Red Rage Productions' 'The Hatch' and 'Cluck'from Michael Lavelle and Rory Dungan. more
