FUNDING | Channel 4 Called to Fund More NI Projects

Channel 4 should aim to spend 15% of its network budget on original shows from the UK's nations and regions including Northern Ireland, the House of Commons Culture, Media and Sport Committee has recommended. The broadcaster is currently required to spend 3% of its programming budget on original content from Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. more
BOX OFFICE | 'Avatar' is Irish Box Office No. 1

Carlton Screen has published the top ten performing films in the Irish box office for 2010. James Cameron's 'Avatar' claimed the top spot, taking €6,214,107, the feature enjoyed huge success during the year including an Oscar win for Irish animator Richard Baneham and his team for the film's visual effects. more
FESTIVALS | 'The Guard' Chosen for Berlinale 2011
The Guard
Element Pictures' 'The Guard' has been selected to screen at the 61st Berlinale Film Festival. The feature was announced as one of 50 films shortlisted to screen as part of the event's Panorama section. The film will show at Berlin following its world premiere at this year's Sundance Film Festival. more

Irish/Finnish co-production 'Lapland Odyssey' has broken records by becoming the best performing film in Finland in 2010. The film, co-produced by Ripple World Pictures, has been seen by over 335,000 people to date and had the strongest opening for a local film in 2010 and the fifth biggest opening for a local film in the last decade. more
BROADCAST| RTÉ Grabs Rugby World Cup Broadcast Rights
RTÉ Sport has secured live broadcast rights to Rugby World Cup 2011, allowing it to provide extensive free-to-air television coverage of rugby's showcase event to the Irish public along with other major international sports events. more

Digital retail analysis company, Profitero have won the second instalment of the Innovation Cubed competition held by the business centre, Media Cube in Dun Laoghaire. This is the second win for the company which offers a competitor monitoring service for on-line retailers, having already won a Seedcamp New Business Funding Award in the best start-up business category. more
BROADCAST | Free to Air TG4 & RTÉ Coming to NI
A new transmitter in Divis in Belfast is currently allowing for free-to-air availability of TG4 in approximately 60% of Northern Irish homes. Furthermore, as part of the 2012 DTT switchover the Irish and UK governments will construct a low power TV multiplex in Northern Ireland will further increase the coverage of these channels to approximately 90% of homes in the north. more

Post production finished recently on the third instalment of Irish reality series, 'Feirm Factor' from Company Productions for TG4. The format also sold to S4C in Wales where the third series of 'Fferm Factor' is currently in pre-production. The Irish ten-part series begins on TG4 on Sunday, January 16th. more
