AWARDS| 'The Irish in Hollywood' for Christmas Day

Irish filmmakers and pioneers have been at the forefront of Hollywood very literally since its inception. A new feature documentary, 'The Irish in Hollywood' will broadcast on Christmas day at 9:00pm on TV3 which will allow audiences the opportunity to examine the long legacy of Irish actors, producers and directors in Ireland. IFTN spoke with the doc's director Paul Howard about the documentary. . more
AWARDS| Ronan & Brosnan Make Critics' Circle Shortlist

Both Saoirse Ronan and Pierce Brosnan have received Critics' Circle Film Award nominations. Pierce has been nominated in the category of British Actor in a Supporting Role for 'The Ghost' whilst Saoirse has been shortlisted in the category of Young British Performer of the Year for 'The Way Back'.. more

'Father Ted', surely the world's only parochial based comedy series achieved cult status very early into its three season run and, as such, is being honoured by Channel 4 on New Year's Day. As part of this celebration, Adrian McCarthy's 'Small, Far Away - The World of Father Ted' will broadcast. INDUSTRY | RTÉ Challenges 'Drug Tolerance' Claims

Following reports that Gerry Ryan had cocaine in his system at the time of his death on April 30th 2010, RTÉ has issued a statement in response to allegations of drug-related activity at RTÉ. In the document the broadcaster rejects any suggestion of tolerance of drug abuse among its workforce or at its premises and claims that RTÉ's management were unaware of Gerry Ryan's drug use. more
DIRECTORS | Jim Sheridan talks about 'The Field'

2010 marks the 20th anniversary of 'The Field'. In the year of Italia '90, the launch of the Hubble Space telescope and Nelson Mandela's release from jail Jim Sheridan helmed the film which was an exploration of the quintessentially Irish cause for dispute - land. Twenty years down the line IFTN spoke with the director about the project; his memories of making it, what he thinks of it now and the effect it has had his career choices since then. more

INDUSTRY| Simon Burke Joins BBC Board
The BBC has confirmed the appointment of Irish retailer Simon Burke as a Non-executive Director of the BBC Executive Board. Mr Burke will join the board from January 1st, 2011. He replaces David Robbie, whose term came to an end earlier this month. more

The next Irish Film Board production funding meeting will be held on Friday, 28th January 2011. As such, those looking to apply for funding from the group must submit their applications by Friday, January 7th 2011. more
BROADCAST| 'Seacht' Bows Out With Final Series
IFTA nominated Irish language drama, 'Seacht', will return to Irish TV screens for its fourth and final series on Monday, January 3rd at 9.30pm on TG4 and 10pm on BBC Two NI. The final instalment of the series will tackle hard-hitting topics such as HIV, suicide and murder. The Stirling team are currently in development with newspaper thriller 'Scúp' out in 2012. more
DIGITAL | Flatley's 'Dance' In 3D
Michael Flatley's 'Lord of the Dance' show will step-dance its way onto the bigscreen next year, with creator and original star Michael appearing in a 3D movie version set for release on St. Patrick's Day. more

Mise Raiftearaí an Fíodóir Focal New Year's Eve will see the premiere screening of new Léirithe Sónta documentary, 'Mise Raiftearaí an Fíodóir Focal' for TG4. Commissioned by the BAI, the feature doc looks at the life and times of the blind, itinerant fiddle player, Antoine Ó Reachtabhra.more
