REP-BODIES| IBEC AV Review Declares 2010 'A Record Year'

IBEC's Audiovisual Federation launched its 2010 review of film and television production in Ireland yesterday, December 15th. The report covers 257 productions completed in Ireland in 2009, with a total production value of €243.3 million - a slight decrease on 2008 (€246.8 million). 2010, however, looks set to be a record year, with an estimated total production value of €367 million, up 50‰ on 2009.. more

Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson has been selected as one of the Berlin International Film Festival's Shooting Stars. He and nine other European actors will be in the spotlight at the Shooting Stars showcase which will take place at the German festival between the 12th and 14th of February. more

DIRECTORS | Wilson in Variety's Top Ten 'Directors To Watch'

Variety has unveiled its 16th annual directors to watch list and Irish helmer Juanita Wilson (The Door) is named in this year's shortlist. The IFTA winner and Oscar nominee received her place on the prestigious list for her new feature 'As If I Am Not There'. She is the only female director on the list. The list of directors is chosen annually through surveys of industry insiders as well as Variety's critics, editors and reporters. more

ARCHIVE| UCD & RTÉ Archives Agree Partnership
RTÉ and UCD have announced a partnership for the long-term preservation of a unique archive of national cultural importance. RTÉ maintains and preserves the largest archive of Irish audio-visual material in the world and the new partnership will mean that the UCD Archives will be the custodians of this RTÉ Collection of Cultural Documents. more
TRAINING | Rackard & Corish Lead FÁS STI Draughting Course
FÁS Screen Training Ireland, in association with Galway Film Centre, will run a Draughting course for Art Department members in January 2011 in Dublin. The nine day event will be tutored by IFTA winning production designer, Anna Rackard and Emmy Winning art director, Colman Corish. more

UTV Facilities has launched a new curve studio, the largest of its type in Northern Ireland. The new space provides the ability to record a 180 degree viewing angle with the capability to add in any backdrop in post production. more
REP-BODIES | New Deadline for BAI's Product Placement Review
The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland recently launched a consultation on proposed revisions to the Product Placement Rules contained in the BAI General Commercial Communications Code. Following a meeting on December 13th, the Authority decided to extend the deadline for the receipt of submissions to this consultation until Friday 21st January 2011. more
BROADCAST | RTÉ Defends Website in Dáil
Following a lobby by National Newspapers against RTÉ's online activity, the broadcaster yesterday, December 15th came in front of a Dáil Committee arguing that its online services to the public are provided properly and fairly under Broadcasting law and do not represent unfair competition to the newspaper industry.more
DIGITAL | Broadband Now In Every Irish District
Communications Minister Eamon Ryan has announced the successful delivery of the €223 million National Broadband Scheme. In two years, the scheme has brought broadband service to 1,028 areas where previously coverage was deemed to be insufficient.more
