FESTIVALS | Capital Irish Film Festival Arrives in Town

In 2005 Solas Nua - a U.S. organisation dedicated to promoting the contemporary Irish arts - produced its first annual Irish film festival. Entitled 'Amharc Eile' and featuring the work of over 50 female directors working in Irish cinema, the festival has since taken on the title of The Capital Irish Film Festival and looks to celebrate all features of Irish cinema.

FINANCE | ILBF Funding Decisions Announced |
Following a recent meeting of the Investment Committee of the ILBF, the Irish Language Broadcast Fund has announced its latest funding decisions. Financing has been offered to a range of programming, including single documentaries, documentary series and factual entertainment for companies such as Imagine Media, Tobar Productions and Below the Radar.

BROADCAST | 'Toy Show' Plays With 1.4million Viewers

Last Friday's 'Late Late Toy Show' attracted the highest audience in the show's 16 year history with an average of 1.4million viewers and am Irish audience share of 72‰ watching the full programme. Furthermore, 90‰ of the show's target audience (4-14 year olds) tuned in to the programme. more |

Shimmy Marcus' Northern soul feature film, 'Soulboy' claimed the Best Film award in the Enfants Terribles section of the 48th Gijon International Film Festival in Spain. Irish director Shimmy Marcus (Headrush) was present at the event to receive the award.more |

SHORTS | Irish Language Shorts Sought by IFB & Dingle

Both the Dingle Film Festival and the Irish Film Board have launched competitions seeking proposals for Irish Language Short Films. The winning applicant of the Dingle Film Festival's Físín competition will be given a cash prize and free equipment hire whilst two winners of the Irish Film Board's Gearrscannáin scheme will win funding for their respective shorts.more |

Today FM radio presenters Ray Foley and JP are currently engaged in a battle to get to the top of the Irish charts in a bid to raise money for charity. Both DJs recently recorded a single in Pulse College's Windmill Lane Recording Studios and have now released their respective singles for download.

AWARDS | Irish Talent in Broadcast Awards Shortlist |
The shortlist for the Broadcast Awards 2011 has been unveiled and Irish talent is prominent amongst the nominees. Irish shot dramas 'Mo' and 'Small Island' have received nods, as has Jam Media's animated series, 'Roy' and Graham Linehan's 'The IT Crowd'.
