FINANCE | Budget Allows €150million for Film & Culture
Brian Leniham
Mary Hanafin T.D., Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport yesterday, December 7th outlined details of the Budget 2011 allocation for the Department where the sectors of Culture & Film received an allocation of €150 million in the new budget. This includes €16m for the Irish Film Board and a €65.2m for the Arts Council which is a 5% reduction on its 2010 allocation. more

'Albert Nobbs' will see Glenn Close and Janet McTeer (Into the Storm) joined by a host of Irish and International talent in the form of Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland), Aaron Johnson (Nowhere Boy), Brendan Gleeson (Into the Storm), Brenda Fricker (My Left Foot) and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers (The Tudors). The feature has already sold to 13 territories around the world. more
PRODUCTION | 'Grabbers' Launch Attack in Belfast and Donegal
Grabbers
Principal photography has just started in Belfast and Donegal on irreverent Irish comedy horror 'Grabbers'. Directed by Jon Wright (Tormented) from an original screenplay by Kevin Lehane (Origin) the film stars Richard Coyle (Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time), Ruth Bradley (Flyboys) and Russell Tovey (The History Boys). more
FESTIVALS | Sundance Picks Shorts from Irish Filmmakers
Small Change
'Small Change', a short graduate film from IADT's National Film School and David O'Reilly's animated short 'The External World' are two of 81 shorts chosen to screen at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. They will show alongside Irish feature film 'The Guard' and feature doc 'Knuckle'.more

Redmond Morris
Oscar nominated producer Redmond Morris has brought the world a spate of internationally acclaimed films which look to challenge yet also resonate with audiences. His latest feature, 'London Boulevard' is currently in cinemas and he just completed the Irish shoot of Sky's 'Neverland'. IFTN recently caught up with the producer of the 2008 hit 'The Reader' to talk film production. more

PRODUCTION | Ciarán Foy Begins Production on 'Citadel'
Production is currently underway on the set of horror film, 'Citadel', an Irish/ UK co-production starring Aneurin Barnard (Owl Creek Bridge) and James Cosmo (Braveheart). The project is the debut feature from writer/director Ciarán Foy and will shoot in Glasgow and Dublin. more
POST-PRODUCTION | A Show is 'Byrne', Adare Focus on X Factor Star
Post production has been completed on 'A Star is Byrne - ScÉal Mary Byrne' in Dublin's Highwire. Produced by Adare productions the one hour special will look at Mary's first foray into competitive musical reality TV with her participation in 'Nollaig No. 1'. The show will also chronicle Mary's recent 'X Factor' journey. more
PRODUCTION | 3D Feature Adaptation of Swift's 'The Selfish Giant'
A feature film version of Oscar Wilde's short story, 'The Selfish Giant' has commenced its development process with Next Door Neighbor Productions. The feature is to be directed by Irish filmmaker and artist Catherine Owens and will be a mixture of 3D live action, motion capture and animation. more
DISTRIBUTION | Cinema On Demand Comes to Ireland
Artificial Eye cinema group, Curzon Cinemas has launched a new On Demand service. Now Irish and UK viewers will be able to watch the latest cinema releases in HD at home. Home audiences will be able to order the films they would like to watch on their laptops, mobiles or television and will have the film on their different screening media for seven days. more

Kite Entertainment and Animo TV are looking for performers for a new hidden camera programme about to go in to development. The untitled series will be executive produced by Darren Smith and Adrian Lynch, the production partnership behind 'Anonymous', 'Class Clowns' and 'I Dare Ya'. more

Irish film composer Ciarán Hope has organised a panel discussion titled 'How to get Your Music into Film & TV in America' that will take place in the Science Gallery at Trinity College Dublin on Tuesday 14th December at 6pm. Dublin-based CR Entertainment has nabbed a nomination at the Kidscreen Awards in New York with the TV Movie, 'Aisling's Summer Diary'. The project will compete in the group of Best one-off, special or TV movie for Teens/ Tweens (ages 11 to 17) at the New York based awards ceremony. more

UTV has installed a new archiving system which has been introduced to give the broadcaster faster access to its digital news packages and archive material as it moves towards a tapeless workflow. The new system involves a combination of Object Matrix and Marquis technology. more
AWARDS | 'Paradiso' Claims Ninth Festival Award
The Irish feature documentary 'Paradiso' has claimed its ninth award at the We the Peoples Film Festival in London. The doc, which was filmed entirely in Derry, scooped the top prize in the categories of Best Film in Festival and Rapprochment of Cultures. more
BROADCAST | Record TV3 Audience for 'X Factor'
The results of 'The X-Factor' semi finals which broadcast on Sunday, December 5th saw TV3 celebrate its highest ever audience ratings. An average of 911,800 people tuned in to see Irish contestant Mary Byrne sing for survival and, ultimately, leave the show. more
